The American University of Beirut offers one of the most intellectually stimulating environments for studying Political Science in the region. The program is rigorous, well-structured, and deeply engaging, combining strong theoretical foundations with real-world relevance.
What stands out most is the quality of the faculty — professors are not only highly knowledgeable but also genuinely invested in students’ development. They encourage critical thinking, open discussion, and independent analysis, which helps students go beyond memorization and truly understand complex political dynamics.
The curriculum is diverse and covers a wide range of topics, from international relations and political theory to Middle Eastern politics and comparative systems. This breadth allows students to explore different perspectives while also specializing in areas that interest them most.
Another major strength is the university’s location. Being in Beirut provides a unique and dynamic context for studying politics, where theory and reality often intersect. This adds depth to the learning experience that few institutions can offer.
Overall, the Political Science program at AUB is an excellent choice for anyone looking to develop strong analytical skills, gain a global perspective, and be part of a vibrant academic community.
AUB has a gorgeous campus that really reflects its history. Walking in you feel like you’ve escaped the commotion of Beirut and entered a beautiful green space. The university follows the American system, so many courses, systems, and structures are different than those in Europe. When it comes to studying, AUB is known to be very demanding, stress is fairly common due to the amount of assignments and exams as well as some bureaucracy. However, the overall ambience is a positive one, there are many clubs and societies one can join. Student life is good and there are many events that cater to many audiences. Overall, I would say my experience is a positive one due to the student life despite the stress.
