    It Got The Jon Fonr

Overall, the University of Manitoba was a pretty decent university in spite of what many others say about it. The professors and instructors I found to be of high quality. Yes, some of the ancillary services where certainly lacking but that was more due to a lack of funding than a lack of trying or caring. I learned a lot there and met a lot of great people.

good but not great; needs a larger budget.

I liked it when I attended it in the early 2000’s. Enrollemnt was more than 30,000 students in the Fall. There were less strikes and the classrooms were big with the ratio of instructor to students to be close to about 1:80-100 students. Some first year classes were probably higher than that. The two best faculties at the time were Faculty of Engineering and Asper school of Business. The Science program was not the greatest with most of the classes in Buller building which was outdated and running on a very small budget. I would recommend using ratemyprofessor.com to choose the best instructors and maintaining a decent gpa so you get to pick your preferred classes when the registration opens up.

Good but not great. Needs a bigger budget

Its a large university with plenty of students (30,000 ) getting enrolled into classes each year. Science is not the greatest ; would recommend Engineering or Asper school of Business for the strongest programs available here. The classrooms are rather large (especially the first couple of years) and University 1 is kind of a waste of time. Check ratemyprofessors.com for picking the better instructors and maintain a decent gpa so you can get first dibs on classes when the registration opens.

    2008 Alum

Attending the University of Manitoba was a significant milestone in my personal and professional development. I graduated in 2008, and my time at the university provided me with a strong academic foundation while helping me develop the critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills that have benefited me throughout my career.

One of the aspects I appreciated most was the diversity of the student body and the welcoming campus environment. I had the opportunity to meet people from many different backgrounds, which broadened my perspective and made my university experience both enjoyable and enriching. The faculty members were knowledgeable and approachable, and I found that they genuinely wanted students to succeed.

The education I received has served me well in my professional life, giving me the confidence to take on increasingly complex roles and responsibilities. Beyond academics, the university encouraged independence, accountability, and lifelong learning—qualities that continue to influence me today.

Looking back, I am grateful for my experience at the University of Manitoba. The friendships I made, the lessons I learned, and the education I received have had a lasting impact. I am proud to be an alumnus and appreciate the role the university played in helping shape my career and personal growth.

Strong Research Experience and Supportive Learning

My experience in the Mechanical Engineering graduate program at University of Manitoba has been rewarding and intellectually challenging. The program helped me deepen my knowledge in areas such as thermofluids, turbulence, heat transfer, and experimental methods while also improving my research and communication skills. Working as both a graduate researcher and teaching assistant gave me opportunities to collaborate with students and faculty in a professional environment. The program encourages independent thinking, problem-solving, and practical application of engineering principles.
