my experience at jkuat is one that i envy. its tough not being at the top from this university since its known for its academic prowess in the research and the STEM related courses.
JKUAT equips student with the required academic immunity that prepares all student to be able to counter the challenges that they face and be able to provide solutions to this challenges
Having studied a science course at JKUAT, I can say that the experience was both rewarding and challenging. The university is well-equipped for STEM fields, with solid research opportunities, experienced lecturers, and access to modern labs—especially in disciplines like biotechnology, engineering, and environmental sciences.
One of the things I appreciated most was the emphasis on practical learning. Whether it was conducting experiments in the labs, engaging in fieldwork, or working on research projects, there was always a strong focus on applying theoretical knowledge. The institution also has strong industry connections, which helped many students secure internships and attachments.
However, like any public university, JKUAT has its share of challenges. Bureaucracy can be frustrating, especially when dealing with administration for unit registration or exam results. Some classes, particularly in popular courses, can be overcrowded, making personalized learning difficult.
Overall, I would definitely recommend JKUAT for anyone interested in science and technology. The training is rigorous, and if you’re proactive, you can make the most of the opportunities available. It’s a great place to build a solid foundation for a science career.

View moreThe Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology is a highly reputable university in Africa that produces great innovators. I like the fact that the university incorporates industrial attachment after every academic year for students in technical fields. I dislike the fact that the university doesn’t update the syllabus at least every 5 years and incorporate online teaching methods. I wouldn’t recommend JKUAT for someone looking to gain competitive skills in today’s market.
