Moi University is known for its rigorous academic foundation. But its experience is defined by a challenging bureaucracy, frequent strikes leading to significant exam and calendar delays, and often outdated amenities. It’s, however, a beautiful, culturally diverse campus that fosters an incredibly rich social life. I can’t get enough of the vibrant clubs and sports facilities that create a strong sense of belonging. Ultimately, it provides a unique, resilience-building education that is less about modern luxury and more about navigating a complex system. Before you know it, you’ll have developed a love-hate relationship with it.

My exepirence in the unversity as high institution of learning is that academic.
University had maintained internation relation with other university.
I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Sociology at Moi University and overall, I had a fulfilling academic experience. The program provided a strong theoretical foundation and encouraged critical thinking, especially in areas of social research, policy, and community development. The lecturers were knowledgeable and approachable, and the curriculum was comprehensive.
However, there’s still room for improvement in terms of integrating more hands-on experiences and industry exposure. Opportunities like internships, partnerships with NGOs or research institutions, and practical case studies would make the learning process even more impactful.
Despite these areas for growth, I value the education I received and believe it prepared me well for both graduate studies and entry into the professional world.
View moreWhen I first arrived at Moi University, I felt out of place, stuck in a program I hadn’t chosen. My early days were marked by frustration, but as time went on, I began to find joy in unexpected places.
On the positive side, I enjoyed creating bonds with people I never thought I would meet. Some of these friendships grew so strong that they felt more like family. Active participation in various events organized by the university added excitement to my experience. The lectures, once mundane, transformed into engaging discussions that sparked my interest in learning.
However, my journey wasn’t without its disappointments. The university had a reputation for scandals and frequent disruptions due to strikes—sometimes initiated by students, workers, or even lecturers. This often resulted in unplanned closures, which disrupted the flow of our studies.
Despite these challenges, I learned to embrace both the highs and the lows of my experience. The connections I formed and the lessons I learned became invaluable, reminding me that growth often comes from navigating both the good and the bad. In the end, I discovered that my time at university was not just about academics; it was about the relationships and resilience that shaped me.
View moreI give my university a 4 rate star. I liked the open-door policy where we were free to engage with our lecturers. The only thing I disliked about it, it was far from Eldoret town. Yes I will recommend it
View moreMoi University is a great school with exciting courses. However, in hindsight, I wish they had done more research when creating the curriculum of some courses. The materials they used were outdated and there was a general lack of understanding of how these courses would translate into actual jobs.
They need to partner with organizations to provide internships for their students as it is a part of the student’s overall grades. Most students failed to get quality internships and were unable to get valuable connections through networking which are important when applying for jobs.
For the generally mandated courses, there is a need to educate the students on the necessary skills that they need in their everyday lives such as financial literacy, personal development, etc.
Overall, we had some great lecturers who went above and beyond to ensure that the information and resources they were disseminating was relevant to the course.
I liked my experience in the University and having directed study which empowered me and my fellow students to independently study and learn our capabilities. The environment was embracing different cultures helping everyone feel comfortable. The University is generally a great place.
