What Is a Medicine Degree?

Saving someone’s life is perhaps one of the most remarkable feelings in the world. Even so, not so many of us have the chance to experience this. It takes passion, a strong personality and years of study to be able to work in the medical field.

Pursuing a Medical degree is not only challenging and demanding but also competitive. Medical degrees are shaped for people who show high motivation and commitment as well as interest for sciences.

Throughout a Medicine degree, candidates are equipped with a wide range of competences, from practical abilities required for specialized hands-on tasks to communication skills needed to interact with the patients. Thus, any medical students will be able to take a simple blood sample as well as perform a complex surgical procedure.

Benefits of a Medical Degree

Undoubtedly, medicine is one of the most vital fields of work – therefore there will always be a high demand of workforce needed. The employment rate for a medical graduate student is of 90%.

Due to its diverse branches, graduates from a Medical course have a variety of career choices, according to their expertise. Nursing, radiology, anaesthetics are just some of the many specialities offered in this field. Regardless of the speciality, the most important aspect needed to be taken into consideration is that medical professionals are well-respected and well-paid all over the world.

Additionally, graduates possess a series of transferable skills, such as logical reasoning, critical appraisal, listening, written and oral communication and many others. These assets are sought and highly valuable in most fields of work.

Medical Degree Structure

Medical courses are usually a six-year commitment, but it can vary according to the university. Most of the modern universities integrate clinical education with basic sciences from the beginning of the academic curriculum, while traditional institutions divide them into preclinical and clinical education.

Most schools understand the importance of practical knowledge, especially in this field, therefore they encourage the students to observe professional healthcare practitioners. Another way to gain practical experience is to go to different clinics and receive specialised training, followed by actual practical work.

No matter the practices of the university, always keep in mind that medical courses are structured differently in every country. Therefore, medical qualifications gained in one country are not necessarily recognised in another country.

Would undoubtedly choose it again if I had to

Personally, I am quite happy with my choice to come to study at Humanitas University and would do so again if I had to. It is by no means a perfect university, it is currently going through some ‘growing pains’ that result in disorganization, some professors are better than others, etc. However, it’s a new university that is growing, the hospital is right next to it, the facilities are new and excellent, there is a lot of support for international students, etc. In my opinion, the pros heavily outweigh the cons.

Great international medicine uni in Italy

This is a great university for internationals interested in studying medicine in Europe. Humanitas University is located on the same campus as the renowned Humanitas Research Hospital, one of the top research hospitals in Europe. If you’re interested in medicine and research, I’d highly recommend this uni. It has great facilities, as it is a new university. As it’s situated outside of Milan, it is a bit tedious to get to the centre through public transport. However, there is a bus that stops right in front of the hospital which makes it more convenient. Plus it’s nice to not be in the hubbub of the city, and enjoy it as you please over the weekend. The Humanitas Campus accommodation is a perfect choice for living especially in the first year. But they offer a place for any Humanitas student of any year!
The teaching is great, and the course is focused on an integrated approach to learning. This is especially helpful for a course like medicine, as you learn better how everything is connected.
One of the flaws of the university is its organization. There’s no set schedule, as classes often change last minute. Additionally, exam schedules (as well as semester schedules) are sent just a month or two before the exam session begins making it a bit tough for personal studying plans.

Humanitas is the perfect uni for international students studying in Europe

This is a university I would highly recommend to students trying to study in Europe or who want an alternative setting to the UK with an active atmosphere of internationality. The courses are taught in English and the professors are generally organized with the study material. Although the university is located a little far from Milan, the public transport is satisfactory to go to central through day and night.

Great university with excellent research facilities and student support

I love that the university gives us lots of chances to redo exams if we mess up or don’t get the grade we like, I would, however appreciate if they’d actually implement their attendance policies and provide us with better studying material.
