As a student of Physics & Astronomy, the skills developed include problem-solving, data analysis using modern technologies and software, creativity, critical thinking, logical thinking, the ability to present innovative ideas writing or speaking, teamwork.
At the same time, most students completing this specialisation continue their studies with graduate work in physics. Also, they can opt for another specialisation, such as computer science, medicine, radiation, law, meteorology, oceanography, teaching physics.
It is noticed that Physics & Astronomy does not limit students to work only in the field of physics. Moreover, it offers a large field of opportunities in jobs related to this science. The employment rate is very high among the graduates of Physics & Astronomy. They remain either in universities, research academies or in various scientific institutes for research and service development.
Most students who complete a degree in Physics & Astronomy have a Bachelor’s degree in Physics. They are highly appreciated on the labour market, as they have a much wider background in natural sciences and mathematics. Most courses include Classical and Quantum Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Optics and Linear Algebra or Statistics. It should be mentioned that the Bachelor studies last for 3 years. A Master’s programme is enough for those looking for research jobs for manufacturing or healthcare industries. These studies have a duration of 2 years.
It is important to know that a doctorate in Physics & Astronomy allows students to work in research, in academies or in various positions of industry researcher. At the same time, to be admitted to a Doctorate in Physics & Astronomy, students need to have math and computer science courses, as physicists and astronomers develop software for modelling and analyzing data. Often, these studies may take between 5 and 6 years. For those who do not want to continue their studies with a PhD, there are computer science courses, very useful for acquiring new knowledge.
During their undergraduate studies, students have the opportunity to attend internship programmes to work with skilled people in this profession and to better understand how they can apply the theoretical knowledge they learnt. There are various national or international astronomical societies, as well as physical societies that provide students with internship programmes.
I want to say that the professors are excellent and the student services are managed very efficiently. The only thing I don’t like is that some course programs are extremely dense. Sometimes, this doesn’t leave enough room for individual study.
View moreThe university is amazing. The course is great, and the professors are amazing as well. The only problem is method of evaluation of exams here. Majority of the exams are evaluated orally which tbh doesnt really make sense for a masters degree in astrophysics and cosmology. Apart from that, international students who are not very well versed with this pattern tend to face a lot of problems here because of oral exams. Another problem is accommodation, its a nightmare looking for a place and even if you get one, it’ll take atleast an hour to reach the classrooms as the campus is far from city.

For the studies in my case , i really enjoyed how subjects are teached and the fact that you can choose how to prepare and when to pass your exams helps a lot for mastering your topic and doing as good as possible in exams.
I’m doing my master’s degree there and i really enjoyed that we are doing oral exams, it prepares for situations when you have to present a thesis or a project where you really have to master your topic and that fir me is really important.

The disability office is great and is very accommodating if you have any disability — something not seen in many universities around the world. However, the psychological support service does not cater to students with psychiatric diagnoses.
The main problem, however, is with finding accommodation once you are in Bologna. The regional body for the right to higher education (ER.GO) has some dorms in the city but in the first year only 6% quota is given to non-EU students making it very hard for first year students to secure a dorm room.
The University doesn’t Have a Campus, as it Dates back To 1088 AD. Known For its Roman & Goliath-style Architectures, a walk Thru The University Area Takes you back To The Medieval Era and you can’t Help being in Awe. The University Departments are spread across The city. The Instructions & Info Inscribed For Tourists is usually Found in Italian, which becomes Quite a Menace To Handle For Non-Italians & International Students. Lastly, in The University Canteens, There aren’t Many VEGAN Options and There’s certainly Room For a Generous Quantity of VEGAN Delicacies (That are Indeed Found in some selected Restaurants in The city) – What I Found Instead, To my utter displeasure as a VEGAN, That The options were Annoyingly Limited To salads & Fruits & Their combinations, which, as is understood by Many, isn’t all what VEGAN Food Represents. There’s Nothing else I can Think of as a Con when writing about such a picturesque University. You Have To visit & experience it Yourself!
The Theoretical Physics Department, in my opinion, holds The potential To stand as one of The best in Europe, if Not Across The world. The syllabus is comprehensive and it Makes sure That The Student knows EVERYTHING That is expected of Them To be known at The Graduate Pre-PhD Level. The PROFESSORS have been equally Top-Notch & brilliant To be Honest – Revered & Respected Professionals in Their Respective Fields. There are a Few whom I could Herald as both PROLIFIC Researchers & Inspirational Teachers, which is a Combination usually Hard To come Across.
View moreThe university is one of the best in Italy for astrophysics and astronomy the department of astrophysics and cosmology (DIFA) is well connected with international collaborations in astronomy and houses the CTAO (Cerenkov Telescope Array observatory) in INAF and is in close vicinity to CNR.
The city is full with students but still finding accommodation in the city is a huge issue, the university provides virtually no support in finding the accommodation and local agencies exploit students to the maximum extent.
Bologna offers the best of astrophysics and cosmology in Italy but finding the accommodation is a huge issue in the city.

Infrastructure is amazing here, the faculty is really really amazing, I am a student of astrophysics and cosmology, the faculty here are people who really work in the field.. except for the accommodation, which is really a difficult problem with too much rent and the way they trick people from the foreign land.
