I really enjoyed my time in UCC. I think one of the main aspect of college in which UCC excels is in the area of student life. There is a huge number of clubs and societies which students are encouraged to join, and which receive a lot of support from the College.
There is also a number of event weeks run by the student’s union, for example “Freshers”, “Refreshers” and “RAG Week”, which are great for new students to meet one another and also to blow off some steam.
I am a law student and I must say that the majority of lecturers are extremely helpful and really try to help students to reach their full potential. Class numbers can be very large, but if you contact a lecturer directly, they will always reply.
One of the bad things about being a student in Cork, is that due to the housing crisis, there is a shortage of affordable student housing. I live at home, but I have heard of many of my friends not being able to find affordable accomodation and many people end up having to commute.
Overall, I would recommend UCC, however, I would advise students who will be searching for accommodation to begin their search as soon as they can!
