What to expect when studying social scineces at ELTE in Budapest

ELTE has dig differences between facoulties, social sciences is definitely not that best one. Although it is free education for hungarians and low tuition fees in general, the university face big funding porblems. Therefore there are mostly lectures in the studyplan and little attention is payed for seminars and practical learning. The study program for sociology is a bit old fashnioned, and lacks new and contemporary theories, problems, and methods in the filed. Administration is pretty slow, and the student body is the least helpful would definitely not helpful. The student life is amazing but not becuase of the university organised programs, but because the city of Budapest is lovely on its own. Overall, would not recommend doing a BA degree in social sciences. Student housing can not accomodate enough students, therefore most students have to find private accomodation and rent prices in Budapest go up and up every year. This means having almost a full-time job parallel to your studies that most professors also don’t really appreciate. Career prospects however are good overall with a sociology degree – but would not recommend staying in Hungary after finishing this degree.
