The university was founded in 1971, with a wide range of programs consistently oriented towards green subjects, uniquely in Bavaria.
The university has 6,400 students in winter semester of 2016/17, with additional 1,780 new students, 146 professors, 323 part-time lecturers, 110 research assistants and 403 staff. They offer various degree programs consist of 19 bachelor’s degree programs, 13 work-study degree programs, 12 master’s degree program and 4 international master’s programs. The university has different departments in fields of study:
