I attended the University of Bonn as an international student while I completed my undergraduate degree in the history of art. It was a wonderful experience, allowing me to learn about the rich cultural heritage of Germany and see many different art pieces firsthand. I found my overall experience incredibly positive, and the faculty and students were welcoming. The university was generally very clean, and I loved my student accommodations more than my apartment at home! One of the most interesting things I learned while at the University of Bonn was the importance of learning a foreign language in order to be able to access different cultures. This prompted me to brush up on my German, and I actually learned a few words while I was there. I had some previous knowledge of German from high school, but my tutors encouraged me to answer in German where possible in my university classes, which allowed me to practice further. There is no denying Germany’s elegance, and being in North Rhine-Westphalia meant there were many places to explore.
View moreBonn was really a lovely experience for me. The university is one of the best in Germany and they do have a lot of research projects and participation on interesting field networks. My degree course was great, better than expected. The professors were all very knowledgeable academics and I did feel their interest in my learning experience as a student. As an international student, they have a lot of programs to support you, they have buddy programs, language learning programs, career insertion programs, support for newcomers, emotional support and so many other things. Bonn is a nice place to be with many organizations where you could do an internship or work as a student assistant (this is what I liked the most). However, it is a bit hard to find accommodation but I guess this is normal in many places in Germany.
