I was studying Sinology at the Eberhard-Karls University Tübingen and it was definitely an adventure that I’ll always cherish. It’s like being part of a small, quirky family where everyone knows each other, and the bonds you form are for life. The professors are a mix of brilliant minds from China, Germany, and Taiwan, each bringing their own expertise and unique teaching style. They’ve got this incredible “I get you through” attitude that keeps you going even when the coursework gets intense—and believe me, it does. Mastering Chinese characters and navigating classical texts? Not a walk in the park, but they make it manageable (and surprisingly fun at times).
Of course, no university experience would be complete without some organizational chaos, and Tübingen doesn’t disappoint in that department. But honestly, it’s part of the charm—you learn to embrace it and focus on what really matters. The courses are challenging, pushing you to your limits, but the sense of accomplishment when you crack something difficult is totally worth it.
Tübingen itself is the perfect student city: not too big, not too small, and just right for living and studying. It’s picturesque, friendly, and full of international students, so you’re always meeting interesting people from all over the world. The connections I made here go beyond just studying; they’re lifelong friendships and memories I wouldn’t trade for anything. If you’re looking for a place to dive deep into Sinology and grow both academically and personally, Tübingen is a fantastic choice—chaos and all.
