I finished my master’s degree as wll as my PhD at the RUB. I can only share my experience pursuant to the faculty of Chemistry, but overall it was a pleasure to study there. Beside the lectures, there are lot of offers for students as well as speciallized workshops for the PhD program. Nevertheless, it would have been beneficial to have a little bit more of online content, especially for the lectures since I had a long way to travel to the RUB.
View moreThe Ruhr University of Bochum (RUB) is often said to be one of the ugliest universities in Germany. I’ve studied there for two semesters already but I can tell you, that is the charm of Ruhr University Bochum. Yes, you will see one block-like-building next to the other but doesn’t this mass of grey represent a part of ‘Ruhrpott’ culture in Germany? Not to mention, the university also has green spots and even its own Chinese garden. So if appearance doesn’t matter much to you, and you value good education and nice professors, this university is suitable. It offers a wide range of programmes. My master’s degree for example gives me a lot of freedom in which courses I want to take, thus giving me the ability to go after my interests. One downside to the RUB, however, is that some professors need a long time to hand in grades. So sometimes you’ll have to write their secritary etc. Overall I had a good experience at RUB so far though.

View moreI studied Psychology at a Bachelor´s degree level. I would recommend studying at RUB because even though the campus consists of rather old buildings, the quality of the lectures totally makes up for it. The professors who taught in my faculty were nice and always had an open door policy, you could always go to them if you had any questions. The cafeteria is good, it offers good meals at an affordable price. If you don´t feel like eating there, you can go to the small shops that are on campus, as well. The uni also has a modern library that offers study spaces to students, as well as books on every subject. I especially liked the location. Bochum is a vibrant student city! Not far from campus, you can find restaurants, bars, pubs and nightclubs, but also historic buildings and theatres and football stadiums.
