My experience at Leuphana is based specifically on my Master program: Culture and Organisation:
The good, the positive and the great: Overall my experience in the program was an enriching one, both academically and personally. Its innovative and dynamic approach to learning made most of my classes deeply engaging and thought-provoking. The teachers didn’t just feel like instructors but like mentors, deeply invested in our learning journey. I appreciated the variety of classes and academic directions available, allowing me to explore different aspects such as Queer and Gender Studies, Post-Colonial Studies, Media, and Art. The program leaders were incredibly receptive to student feedback, creating a supportive and collaborative environment. One highlight was the opportunity for collaborative classes with other universities, offering unique and dynamic learning formats, along with the option to pursue a certificate in a Sustainability Certificate parallel to my studies.
The negative, to be improved aspects:
It is a growing program, which comes with a particular set of challenges, yet as mentioned the teachers were very receptive to our concerns and proactive about our thoughts.
A few portion of the teachers were not that engaging or committed to our learning, but this was really the minority. In my experience, it was a bit of a pity since it was an important class but it was balanced with my other amazing teachers.
Even though Leuphana is significantly much better than other universities in terms of being International, there are still some aspects of the university that feel very German and not foreigner or english friendly.
Receiving feedback from our assignments was a bit mixed depending on each teacher. Sometimes I would have prefered a more interactive and transparent feedback experience and not just a grade.
In conclusion:
Overall, the program provided me with truly invaluable insights as well as inspiration. It shaped my perspective on various cultural topics profoundly. I also valued the international aspect of the program and its progressive, diverse atmosphere, particularly as a non-German, since it made me feel safe to participate in class and voice any type of questions and concerns. My cohort was particularly a colourful and diverse one and I felt very included and open to collaborate closely with our teachers and the university in many different ways. So would I recommend it? I would wholeheartedly recommend my program to others!
In my opinion the Leuphana University is in general a good uni. The campus is very nice, facilities are not as worn-out as many other big universities and the overall atmosphere is very comfortable. I can only speak for my bachelor program which is International Business Administration and Entrepreneurship, that especially promotes with their English classes and international approaches. In my opinion it is not exactly what one would expect from the program. Even though some lecturers are very competent, most of them have poor English skills and particularly in the interdisciplinary courses, where Ibae and other students are taught together, the organization is poor and requirements for passing the course (often containing 3 exam parts for only 1 course of 5CP) are disproportional.
A great point at Leuphana university is the Complementary course. Some students might disagree with me, but in my opinion, having the opportunity in every semester to learn something in an other disciplinary is a great opportunity to widen the general knowledge.
View moreThe university advertises itself as very international and offers 2 English bachelor degrees. However, this is pure advertising and is completely different in reality. Most of the professors speak broken English and conduct 20% of the lectures in German, despite the presence of international students in a class. Well, you can also just have a live translation of the German lecture with no alternative options, which is even more terrible. Not only can the professors not speak proper English, but the lectures are normally disorganised and bore you to death. The material itself is also very theoretical and can’t be applied to real life. However, there are a few nice professors and the atmosphere in class is friendly, so one star goes for that 🙂
View moreThe Leuphana University not only teaches the students about the different topics of their studies but also helps them to develop and to learn what they want for their future.
It is just a small university hence a lot of classes are on a personal level.
It offers a good structured programme for all faculties, fosters the group dynamic and supports through complementary studies character development.
Most of the professors are motivated to teach the students although some of them have some problems to express themselves in the English language.
But I myself am really satisfied with this university and its strategy.
The Leuphana has a lot of modules that specifically concentrate on a sustainable future and the students are awesome! The atmosphere on campus is always good and it’s easy finding friends! I love going to Uni in Lüneburg!
