My university is among the best in Germany; it ranks highly among German universities, has a lot of new research projects underway, and its professors are very innovative and creative in their classes and experiments. Campus life is very easy and affordable, and tuition is very low about 300 euros per semester.

First of all I want to say that I am glad that I got accepted to IBE Program at the university. It offers very high-quality courses with high-quality materials. However if I want to complain there are some stuff that I didn’t like about the university. I didn’t like the communication courses part of my program, where I need to fight for a place so that I can finish these mandatory courses for my masters program. I don’t like like how we don’t have summer or winter break, because you could have exams all over the months for example you could have an exam in August and an exam in September then you cannot plan for any trip, since October is the new start of the semester. The program is heavy and international students need to work to finance their stay and some university members do not understand that, and they think that we do not take our studies seriously. There is a huge space between the German community and the international community and integration could be very hard if you don’t have friends or people that could help you with that.

TU Ilmenau offers a strong academic environment for research-oriented students. I started the Research in Computer and Systems Engineering program in the Summer 2025 intake, and my experience so far has been rewarding. The curriculum is well-structured, focusing on both theoretical depth and practical research exposure.

One of the highlights is the close interaction with professors and research groups, which allows students to get involved in real projects early on. The faculty is approachable and supportive, especially when it comes to guiding thesis work or research proposals. The university facilities, including labs and libraries, are well-maintained and provide a good environment for focused study.

While the campus life is relatively calm compared to larger cities, it is ideal for students who are serious about academics and research. There are also opportunities for collaboration and networking through workshops and conferences.

Overall, I would recommend this university and program to anyone looking for a solid foundation in research and advanced systems engineering. It’s a great place to grow academically and prepare for a PhD or research-driven industry role.

The cost of living in Ilmenau is lower compared to major German cities, making it budget-friendly for students. As a student in the Master’s program in International Business and Economics (IBE) at the Technical University of Ilmenau (TU Ilmenau), my experience has been overwhelmingly positive. The university’s vibrant international community significantly enriches the learning environment, fostering cross-cultural exchanges that are invaluable in today’s globalized world. TU Ilmenau offers modern facilities, including state-of-the-art laboratories and comprehensive libraries, complemented by a knowledgeable and supportive faculty.

The IBE program, though relatively new, demonstrates TU Ilmenau’s commitment to expanding beyond its traditional technical strengths. This interdisciplinary approach equips students with a versatile skill set, combining business acumen with technical knowledge. Despite being in its early stages, the program holds great promise, though it requires some refinement to better align with industry standards.

One area for improvement is fostering stronger interfaculty collaborations, which would enhance the interdisciplinary learning experience and better prepare students for real-world challenges. Overall, TU Ilmenau is an excellent institution for higher education, providing a supportive and innovative learning environment. The IBE program, supported by the university’s strong academic reputation, is poised to grow and develop, making TU Ilmenau a promising choice for international business and economics studies.

Before the start of studies, I was not sure about my program and scope, which was masters in Research in Computer and systems engineering, as I started my studies I find courses really helpful and it gets updated each semester to cope up with new trends and technology.

Pros

1. Rated as one of the best in Germany, hence employers value students from the school especially those that graduated from the program – M.sc Signal and Communications processing.

Cons

1. Located in the east with about (30k) population
2. Very *few* people speak English, getting around is difficult without German proficiency.
3. Most people are unfriendly
4. Enrollment ticket for students could be better
5. Little specialization options to choose from for those in the Media and Communications science department.
