My experience at HFBK Hamburg University of Fine Arts has been incredibly enriching and inspiring. One of the strongest aspects of the university is the wide variety of courses it offers, allowing students to explore different disciplines and develop a truly individual creative path.
I particularly appreciated the graphic and web design classes, as well as the book and typography courses. These programs stand out for their depth and level of knowledge—they feel genuinely advanced and forward-thinking.
Another highlight is the supportive environment created by the professors. They are approachable, engaged, and genuinely invested in the development of each student, which makes a significant difference in the learning experience.
The university also has a diverse and international student community, which adds a valuable cultural dimension to everyday interactions and collaborations. It’s especially welcoming for international students, as it is very English-speaking friendly, making it accessible even if you’re not fluent in German.
A major advantage of studying here is the absence of a traditional grading system. Instead, the university uses a signature-based evaluation, which removes a lot of unnecessary pressure and allows students to focus more on exploration, experimentation, and personal growth rather than competing for grades.
Overall, HFBK Hamburg offers a unique, progressive, and supportive environment that encourages creativity, independence, and meaningful artistic development.
