The Europa-Kolleg Hamburg is an interdisciplinary institution for education and research in the field of European integration which is internationally recognized. The institute provide a stimulating environment for students and researchers from around the world.
The Europa-Kolleg Hamburg was promoted the foundation by Mr. Bruno Snell since 1950s. He studied the early European ideas of ancient Greek and witness the Nazi dictatorship. He shaped his vision through this event of a democratic and united Europe. By expressing the idea repeatedly, he finally constitute the foundation Europa-Kolleg Hamburg on July 31st. Iniatiallly, the new institutuion focused on highly qualified local and foreign students. The students live and study in one roof. In 1960s advanced education and post doctoral opportunities are added. After three decades the post graduate programme was introduced and was funded by the German Research Foundation.
Today, the Europa-Kolleg Hamburg is not only a place for higher learning and research, but also a comfortable place to live. It is located in the beautiful and green neighborhood Grob-Flottbek, the “Elbstrand”, known as the riverside beach of Elbe. It is also accessible to city metro and transport system. Shopping mall are also near the campus.
