What Is an Economics Degree?

Are you passionate about the business and finance sector? Do you follow the national and international news? Then, an Economics degree is the answer. It has always been one of the most sought-after degrees amongst youth.

Economics degrees are designed to tackle all the issues that have an impact on financial situations, ranging from production to how resources are used. Candidates are trained to understand how the economy suffers fluctuations based on the market’s needs and wants followed by the market’s supply and demand.

By far one of the most crucial elements is that economics is divided into microeconomics and macroeconomic. Microeconomics deals with the economic behaviour at an individual level (companies, buyers, sellers and others), whilst macroeconomics illustrates the bigger picture, on a national or global scale (unemployment, economic growth, inflation and so on).

Benefits of an Economics Degree

Having an economics degree increases anyone’s chances to find a job, regardless of the field. This is mainly due to the fact that graduates hold many transferable abilities, such as analytical and problem-solving skills, that are suitable for any career.

A study made by the London School of Economics and Political Science showed that graduates from an economics course have a starting salary of £33,000 per year. Having a job in the field right after graduation is a major positive aspect and comes with a lot of opportunities for career advancement.

Economics Degree Structure

Economics degrees are usually a three years commitment and sometimes are offered as part of a joint degree. This means that Economics can be studied along with another subject such as engineering, management, law, computer science and others.

This degree can be found either as a Bachelor of Science (BSc) or Bachelor of Arts (BA). The BSc focuses more on economical theory and statistical techniques, while BA is combined with social sciences and qualitative modules.

A quiet but great place to study

Studying Economics at the Université de Strasbourg has been a good and rewarding experience for me.The program offers a strong mix of theory and practical analysis, helping you understand how economic ideas apply to real issues. The professors are cool and supportive, though the teaching pace can be quite rigorous at times. The city itself adds a special charm, it’s peaceful, international, and full of culture. Strasbourg might not feel as fast-paced as bigger cities, but it gives you the space to focus, learn, and truly enjoy your studies.

    this institution.

Studying at the University of Strasbourg has been a great experience. From the first time I arrived, the campus felt welcoming, full of history and a good atmosphere. The teachers are skilled and always ready to support us whenever we want to explore our subjects more. What I enjoy most is the close-knit student community—everyone’s friendly, so it’s easy to make friends and work together on projects. Being part of this university makes me proud and gives me a strong sense of belonging. I couldn’t ask for better.

    Studying here.

This is an excellent opportunity to study at this school and receive training alongside students and teachers from all over the world. The professors are highly qualified to teach the courses. However, since the courses are entirely in French, this can be challenging for international students unfamiliar with the French education system.

    The international atmosphere

What I like most about the university is the international atmosphere. There are a lot of foreigners and they are also very friendly and kind people. There are also quite a few activities for super cool female students. At the academic level, it also seems to me that there is a good level even if sometimes we find ourselves with teachers who are a little lazy and we have to manage to understand hahah. In any case, it would be a good university experience arriving at the University of Strasbourg, located in a wonderful city

    International new student overview

I am mostly enjoying studying Economics and Management here so far. Education is great, to succeed on exams we must work really hard. The structure of the University is beautiful with an amazing Economics and Management Library. University life is good enough since we have the “Cafet” a cafeteria in the middle of the building organized by students. The atmosphere there is more relaxed with good music. At Unistra, we have the right to choose 5 different sports activities every semester, I find it incredible.
To note: the program is definitely more focused on maths.
Negative points: Until now, not been much orientation toward after-college life. It remains more theorical not exploring our career possibilities. Also, the food there during lunch is expensive compared to other University Restaurants here in town.

The ideal training for those curious about marketing

If you are interested in the field of marketing, sales, communication or management but you are not sure what you want to do later, you have just come across the ideal training. The Marketing Techniques DUT allows you to take a global look at the fields of sales and marketing in just 2 years, which allows you to really touch on everything before specializing in a bachelor’s degree, in a Grande Ecole, in IAE… All the options are open. But the DUT is above all a practical and theoretical training, so you won’t be sitting all day in an amphitheatre full of students, but in small classes, doing negotiation sketches, on an internship in a company… This training allows you a real opening on the field to find the path that really suits you.
The advantage? The DUT is not paid training, it will cost you as much as enrolling in college, but you will benefit from much more extensive support from teachers than at college, and you will graduate after two years. !
    So, convinced?
