What Is an Art and Design Degree?

It is considered that generation Y is the generation with the most creative minds. Thus, millennials tend to express themselves through various forms, such as Art and Design.

Degrees in Art and Design aim to empower students to use art as a tool for self-expression. This degree is designed to develop visual perception as well as visual literacy. As a result, students gain practical skills in order to turn their imaginative ideas into reality.

Unlike many programmes, Art and Design courses improve students’ attention to detail, creative thinking, and freedom in the decision-making process.

Benefits of an Art and Design Degree

Art and Design is a competitive industry. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to be equipped with the necessary skills to have higher chances of being employed in this field.

In general, graduates from this degree have a wide range of employment options once they finish their studies. The advantage of an Art and Design course is that you are highly employable for other industries too – there are numerous courses that would help to develop specialised skills for specific careers.

Some particular job areas include – apart from being an artist – community worker, fashion designer, graphic designer, illustrator, advertising executive, and multimedia worker. Many Art and Design graduates find themselves using their skills in marketing, media, or even teaching.

Art and Design Degree Structure

Art and Design degrees are part of Bachelor of Art (BA) Degrees. Courses’ structure and length depend on what type of programme you choose to study and the country where you choose to study. Usually, Art and Design courses are a three-year commitment, although there are countries – like the USA – where you need to study for at least four years.

The most remarkable aspect about this degree is that it emphasises the practical knowledge. Courses are often taught in studios, as a form of workshops. Additionally, students are assessed based on their portfolios of work, which may be exhibited to the public.

Great resources but lacking in other aspects

My program is fine arts at Parsons school of design. The school is great but the fine arts program specifically has very little space. I feel like the students that are in my program aren’t the most engaged people and unfortunately, most of the teachers are unmotivating.
I enjoy the way the semsters are organized and the first year is a foundation year is very helpful if you’re not sure what you want to study yet.
In conclusion, the school is great but you need to depend on internal motivation if you want to get the best experience. Always search up the teachers when you’re choosing classes and Don’t expect the students to be as interesting as you imagine ://

    Location and Academics

Great location in Paris and recommended for people who are hard workers and into strict academic structures similar to high school. It is not the typical “university” experience one would expect due to the small amount of students and the size of the campus, as well as many other factors.

The opportunities available because of the location. Loads of internships

I love it so far. It’s a small strong community in the centre of Paris full of like minded creative individuals. The first year is fun whilst challenging; you really get what you give. It’s a great place to collaborate with other people and really develop creative projects. The staff are great too, but some Professors are much better than others.

Hi,I was considering going to Parsons Paris when I finish high school and I am trying to find as many resources as possible to make sure it is the best fit for me. If you can help me with this I will be really greatful. I fallow Parsons Paris on instagram and I joined certain online sessions. On instragram there is barely any work of the media, design and technology program presented. I am always curious to know why. I wonder about some assigments that we will have to do and the freedom to do them. How much preassure does the school place on the students to create projects who are susteinable, ecological and etical?Thank you so much for your time!
