This review is for freshmen students at UBC! Contrary to what I’ve heard about living in Vancouver, attending UBC, and how difficult it might be to find your people in this large community, making friends and connections was much less complicated than I could have ever imagined. UBC is a big campus and it might seem overwhelming at first, but you will be able to easily find someone in either your classes, the dorms, dining halls, or academic clubs! Don’t be scared to reach out to someone first, everyone is in the same boat as you here. Saying hi sometimes is all it takes to meet someone who might become a part of your life! Be open to new opportunities, join clubs and associations at UBC, and make connections with your professors. I noticed that something that worked for me was joining interesting clubs and applying for executive positions there to get more involved with campus life! I got closer to other teammates and developed some professional skills at the same time! Most importantly, don’t be nervous and have fun! You’ll meet the right people and have the best university experience, as UBC has so many great things to offer!
View moreI have learned to become flexible and open to all sorts of change during my unique university experience so far. I have been lucky enough to study at 3 different schools, in 4 different countries, and 3 different continents. From receiving a volleyball scholarship and moving to San Francisco for two years, to COVID19 derailing my original plan and forcing me to transfer schools, to taking a semester off, to continuing my education online, to participating in two exchanges to Munich, Germany and Arusha, Tanzania, I have crossed paths with a plethora of people. There were several constants throughout my time so far, that is frustration, mainly with admissions, but also excitement for a new journey that helped shape me into a more confident person with cross-cultural experiences. I am finishing a combined major in Cultural Studies and English which paired wonderfully with all of my adventures thus far. My passions mainly center around learning from other people and absorbing as much as I can from places that make me feel a bit out of my comfort zone. My plan was to follow that passion and figure out how to make the most of each situation.
View moreThe campus atmosphere at the University of British Columbia was a very memorable experience. I had the privilege of being a student here and getting to enjoy all the school events that were catered towards students. For example, the welcome back week, where you could meet new people, and the clubs week for students to join different groups. There were many events outside of just studying for students to be able to enjoy and partake in.
View moreI believe that the University of British Columbia is one of the top institutions in the world as it has a lot to offer. The classes that are offered to students, and the knowledge of every professor I have had the opportunity to learn from was a great opportunity for me. It also helps that the campus atmosphere itself is also pretty wonderful and very scenic.

View moreUBC is a top-notch institution that provides a strong sense of belonging, a lovely setting, and a welcoming environment. The numerous clubs, organizations, and diverse student bodies combine to create a vibrant and welcoming environment. There are many chances for practical learning and research for the success of the students.
View moreI am currently a first year student in the UBC Coordinate Art Program in the Globalization, Power, & Society section. The benefits of this program is the set courses you have to take along with other CAP students in your section, by having the same people in most of your courses, socializing became easier and it was a easier transition from high school to university. UBC offers a lot of socializing events for students, but the fee is rather high along with the overpriced food and necessities.
View moreThe campus life of UBC is very much engaging and filled with student participation. With many clubs and spaces for students to gather, there are many opportunities to socialize and be a part of the community. As a commuter student, being a part of the on campus community can be a struggle. However, the clubs at UBC are flexible with student schedules. Additionally, there are many restaurants available on campus, this allows for convenience when hanging out with friends. Commuting to UBC is also very doable with the bus options available
UBC also has many features that allow for fun activities for students to do. There is a campus bar, an Anthropology museum, golf course and several gardens to visit.
View moreI have had an amazing experience in the Criminology program at the University of British Columbia. MY professors have been knowledgeable and quite interesting and the coursework has been challenging but rewarding. I really did enjoy the opportunity to work on past case studies and observe real-world phenomena. This has helped me to apply the concepts that I have learned in the classroom to practical situations.
One of the highlights of the program has been accessing a great number of resources from the program along with great support services. The Career Center has been particularly helpful in guiding me through the job search process, and I have had the opportunity to attend several networking events and workshops to help me build my professional skills.
All in all, I highly recommend the Criminology program at the University of British Columbia to all that are interested in pursuing a career in this field. This program has provided me with the knowledge and skills that I need to succeed, and I can say quite confidently that it will do the same for others.
View moreAs one of Canada’s top two universities, the University of British Columbia is a place ripe with opportunities for students, not to mention the amazing scenery. A drawback is the transit system for commuters, as the buses are very inconsistent, and are not well equipped for snowy weathers.
