What Is a Marketing Degree?

A business cannot survive if its products are not marketed in the proper way. Luckily for all the businesses out there, the number of candidates wanting to pursue a marketing career is growing tremendously.

The aim of this degree is to help students anticipate, manage, and satisfy customers’ needs and wants. By doing so, they will be able to effectively communicate the benefits of any business product to the targeted market.

Due to the fact that marketing is a complex industry, which tackles many areas ranging from market research to advertising and promotion, this degree focuses on all parts of the process before concentrating on a particular area of study.

Benefits of a Marketing Degree

Good news for marketing graduates! If you did not know yet, marketing is an essential aspect of all types of businesses, from all sectors of activity. Thus, all of them rely on marketers to promote and sell their products. A high market demand comes with many job opportunities available.

According to Labor Department Findings, graduates with a marketing degree can earn 98% more per hour than the ones working in the industry without having a specialised degree.

Furthermore, students are equipped with transferable skills, such as excellent communication abilities, strategic thinking, planning, data analysis and so on, that can be used in other industries too.

Marketing Degree Structure

Marketing degrees can be studied either as Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BSc). The major difference lies in the presence of more scientific and technological aspects, which are commonly seen in a BSc rather than a BA.

Like most degrees, marketing courses last between three and four years, depending on the university. However, there are institutions which give students the possibility to do a two-year associate’s degree – also called a ‘foundation’ degree.

Even if graduating from both degrees qualifies candidates to work in this industry, a Bachelor degree has higher chances to lead you to well-paid jobs.

Getting Involved: Maximizing Your TMU Experience

My favourite part of being a TMU student, and notably TRSM, are the opportunities it provides. When you take advantage of TMU’s student groups, events, and academic opportunities, there is so much to offer. Aside from conventional academic classes, I’ve had the chance to join student groups, which has not only allowed me to form great connections and memories, but has also allowed me to gain professional experience that will serve me well after graduation. TRSM Bootcamps are a valuable opportunity that TRSM provides that I appreciated as they allowed me to gain different certificates that I can add to my LinkedIn profile or resume, for example. My favourite part of TMU is that there are always unlimited opportunities available. Honourable mentions include: SLC.

Although I would argue that my postsecondary years have been the busiest of my student career thus far, I would also argue that this time has been the most rewarding for me as a student. Because of my time at TMU, I felt I was able to greatly improve both professionally and personally by gaining real working experiences. I would definitely attribute this to the fact that I took the initiative to engage in extracurricular activities such as student societies, school events, and internship and volunteer opportunities. In my first year, I was only taking classes and doing nothing else, and I felt like I was stagnating. However, after being more involved on campus, I was able to build new connections and experience, make the Dean’s list, obtain internships, and most importantly, gain knowledge and skills that you can’t learn from a textbook. As a fourth-year student, I can confidently state that I will be graduating and satisfied with my school experience at TMU.

As a mature student, I highly recommend Toronto Metropolitan University for individuals seeking post-secondary education in Toronto. This institution is dedicated to guiding individuals in achieving their goals while also emphasizing the importance of uplifting others. Ted Rogers School of Management offers a wide range of extracurricular activities, networking, and school spirit events that actively engage students. The library (SLC) is amazing Downtown location makes for fun trips around your class schedules. There are opportunities to stay active by participating in various student groups. Commute is okay. A hands on program

The Graphic Communications Management degree program covers various subjects, including graphic design, business, and the printing industry. Through the program, students can develop a comprehensive understanding of the printing industry’s inner workings, from packaging to publishing and display graphics. At the Heidelberg Centre, students will also have access to multiple high-end printers and Mac labs. However, if a student doesn’t find themselves interested in the printing industry aspect of the program, there are other courses available that focus on project management, graphic design, and UI/UX design.

    Graphic Communication Technology l

As someone who was previously aiming to be an engineer but decided not to, this program was extremely easy in terms of getting an A. The professors are amazing and sweet! The reason why I rate it 3 stars is because it’s not for me. I think the career prospect looks really promising, however, I feel really unsure of my future as there’s a BROAD career outcome. Since there isn’t a clear focus on packaging, design, and business, I feel like I won’t be able to get a job because I’m not coming out of it specialized in anything particular.

Law and Business Major, Bachelors of Business

I absolutely love the law and business program at Ryerson University. Specifically, the Co-Op program and well-versed faculty have enabled me to find different marketing and legal opportunities to explore as those are my interests. Through such support I have managed to secure employment after I graduate with a company I love.

The faculty and courses have also been tailored to be applied and hands on.

    Great Community

I have just finished my first year in the Graphic Communications Management program, I really like it! The classes are very engaging and hands-on, keeping you creative and enthusiastic about the work. All professors are very professional and encouraging. But I’ve met some really good ones who go out of their way to care for their student’s needs. Online classes can be challenging to navigate for some people, but there are many options and school resources to help students. The school has recently decided on the new name being Toronto Metropolitan University and they are putting in a lot of work right now going through the processes of changing all the specifics, which I really appreciate and am excited for. The school is in a great location for students who love the city or even who live farther out and like to communicate, not to mention the job opportunities in the surrounding areas. The school is very diverse just like the city is and has many international students in all programs. I am really looking forward to the education and experiences in my future years at TMU.
