What Is a Marketing Degree?

A business cannot survive if its products are not marketed in the proper way. Luckily for all the businesses out there, the number of candidates wanting to pursue a marketing career is growing tremendously.

The aim of this degree is to help students anticipate, manage, and satisfy customers’ needs and wants. By doing so, they will be able to effectively communicate the benefits of any business product to the targeted market.

Due to the fact that marketing is a complex industry, which tackles many areas ranging from market research to advertising and promotion, this degree focuses on all parts of the process before concentrating on a particular area of study.

Benefits of a Marketing Degree

Good news for marketing graduates! If you did not know yet, marketing is an essential aspect of all types of businesses, from all sectors of activity. Thus, all of them rely on marketers to promote and sell their products. A high market demand comes with many job opportunities available.

According to Labor Department Findings, graduates with a marketing degree can earn 98% more per hour than the ones working in the industry without having a specialised degree.

Furthermore, students are equipped with transferable skills, such as excellent communication abilities, strategic thinking, planning, data analysis and so on, that can be used in other industries too.

Marketing Degree Structure

Marketing degrees can be studied either as Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BSc). The major difference lies in the presence of more scientific and technological aspects, which are commonly seen in a BSc rather than a BA.

Like most degrees, marketing courses last between three and four years, depending on the university. However, there are institutions which give students the possibility to do a two-year associate’s degree – also called a ‘foundation’ degree.

Even if graduating from both degrees qualifies candidates to work in this industry, a Bachelor degree has higher chances to lead you to well-paid jobs.

    World of Marketing

As an international student stepping into a new country, I was filled with curiosity, fear, nervousness, and excitement. I chose George Brown College as my first step in immersing myself in a different culture and learning about the marketing world.

Firstly, I believe that George Brown College has a strong international community that supports international students like myself. While being an international student, there were aspects I didn’t know how to prepare for, but the college staff were all welcoming and willing to assist. When I arrived in Canada, it was amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite facing online courses, GBC provided an excellent virtual tour and orientation, introducing all the campuses, programs, and essential details. This made me feel less frustrated and nervous.

Regarding my program, Business Marketing, I am grateful for choosing George Brown. The professors are all approachable and professional. I’ve gained valuable hands-on experience through various projects. Additionally, the business department hosts several events for networking opportunities, connecting students with professionals who are willing to offer guidance whenever needed.

However, there are a few areas where I believe GBC could improve. I think the college should organize more diverse cultural events. Additionally, for the international department, networking events could help international students connect with each other, fostering a supportive community. This year, there has been frequent movement between classrooms in different buildings, which can be frustrating and time-consuming. It would be better if classes were held in the same building.

Overall, I consider GBC to be a good college. I would recommend it to anyone considering studying here. The facilities and staff are all supportive, contributing to a positive learning environment.

The good thing about George Brown College is that they provide the skills required to pursue a career in whatever you are there to learn (like all schools). what sets them apart however for me personally, is the engagement between teacher and student. it is very apparent that the teachers are very involved with the students success and actually care

Not very interesting but had great professors

Professors made most of the course fun but still had very boring but heavy assignments and essay topics. Digital marketing was intriguing but the assignments weren’t, Online classes made the program feel slower and all-around boring.
