What is a Psychology Degree?

Psychology is the favourite science for students who want to get into the depths of human feelings. This is considered to be the science of mind and behaviour. More specifically, psychology wants to explore the way people think, act, and feel, by appealing to the emotional side of people.

Passion can lead students to choose this specialisation. It is not considered a difficult one, but it is not very easy to approach, as the theoretical elements of the discipline are combined with the practical ones.

After studying Psychology, students choose to specialise in a particular sub-field. Depending on their preference, they can choose between Biological Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Comparative Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Personality Psychology and many others.

Benefits of a Psychology Degree

Psychology is a great opportunity to get to know each other better and to get to know others. Thus, students who are looking to understanding human behaviour, feelings and mind gain an inside vision of what these notions really mean and what determines people to make certain decisions and act under different circumstances.

The employment rate among Psychology graduates has grown in recent years. Salaries are satisfactory, and young people can focus either on psychological services in schools, hospitals, treatment centres, clinics, depending on the specialisation chosen. Furthermore, Psychology graduates can integrate a career in social media, marketing, and advertising, as they understand best the reasons why people choose to make decisions according to what they see in real life.

Psychology Degree Structure

In the four years of Bachelor studies, graduates acquire the necessary knowledge to practice Psychology, initially learning the underlying theoretical notions. These notions become an important starting point in their career, seeing later how practice blends very well with theory. It should be noted that on the labour market, students who hold a Bachelor’s degree are much more appreciated and have an advantage over those who follow simple courses.

A Master’s program usually lasts between 2 and 3 years, coming as a complement to the Bachelor’s courses. Master courses have a much more loaded curriculum and a great deal of information. A Doctoral program is dedicated to students who want to do research in Psychology in various institutes or to become teachers. This has a duration of between 5 and 7 years.

    Great University for Psychology degrees

The psychology course at Concordia university in Montreal is very interesting and well-organized. The professors are knowledgeable and explain concepts in a clear way. I like that there is a lot of focus on real research and experiment. Some classes can be a bit fast-paced but overall the course helps students understand psychology better.
The campus is very pleasant, especially Loyola. I highly recommend this University of you’re looking for a solid psychology degree.

    Resources

I like my university since people are very friendly however I must say if you are NOT in the business school, you will barely have any resources helping you succeed/ progress into the work life. You will have to do most things yourself. However, if you are in the business school, you will be blessed with many resources and career advise, help and recruiters.

    Concordia is best

Concordia university is one of the top listed universities not just in Canada but worldwide. The most amazing thing about this university is it is a standalone English speaking university in Montreal that allows non francophone students to enrol and study efficiently. My program is beautifully designed with access to high quality classrooms and faculty members that are available every time to attend your queries. The huge campus of the University including the library allows students to indulge in group work and research programs. The administration staff is super supportive and polite in their conversations. I have had the most amazing experience studying at Concordia so far.

    Great classes

This university is great for its smaller classes. Don’t be discouraged by this! Smaller classes ensure students can get the assistance they need, making learning all the more accessible. Moreover, Concordia has great programs to ensure students get all the additional help they need to succeed. There are always ways to engage with the school and its various programs, whether department-led or student initiative-led. Everyone is kind and welcoming, making delving into higher education a more manageable and enjoyable journey.

    Pleasant experience at Concordia

It is my last semester at Concordia and I have enjoyed my time here while completing my undergraduate degree in Psychology. Overall, I liked the inclusive environment as well as the access to many helpful resources such as mental health help. I think that Concordia values our opinions as students and ensures that we have a good and healthy learning environment. There are many clubs and events that ensure that’s students are able to come together and enjoy extra curricular activities. While there are many valuable aspects of Concordia, I do think that in terms of course evaluations, we could provide feedback early on to ensure that our feedback has an impact on our experience and not only for future students of the course. Overall, I had a pleasant experience and would recommend Concordia to someone who is looking for a organized, inclusive and supported education experience.

    Concordia Experience

So far I have loved Concordia University, the need to take electives in my program encourages you to branch out and learn more outside of your program. Although it has been tricky to meet people due to the pandemic, there has already been a massive change in the chances of socialization.

    Good foundation for critical thinking

Overall, I enjoyed my experience as a Psychology major at Concordia University. I felt like the courses were well-structured and the program did provide students with good resources and seminars related to Psychology beyond the scope of the program itself. I felt like my university experience really helped me develop my critical thinking skills and gave me a good foundation for being disciplined and managing my time well.

I also really appreciated the advisors in the Career Counselling department. They were very willing to help and provided a lot of guidance in the realm of life after graduation.

The only complaint I do have is about the Department of Psychology itself. I found them to be quite hard to contact at times and sometimes unable to provide help in areas pertaining to classes filling up when they were considered program requirements.

    First Semester at Concordia

I have to say moving from a city known for its beaming sun and sandy shores to a brand new city known for its autumn leaves and white winters was a tremendous change for me. However, settling into Concordia University has been ever so comforting. The kind faces, the understanding professors, and most importantly, the ambiance as a whole has been incredibly supportive.

    Interdisciplinary

Concordia has two beautiful campuses. They have diverse and interesting programs as well as available courses for Continuing Educations. Although their second campus is far, classes are enjoyable and most teachers are very skilled and understanding. I really enjoy the multiple aid programs and workshops they offer and their multiple tools for students to land a job through their coop programs and job bank lists.
