The McGill experience really depends on what you make of it – I believe that anyone can find their people at this school. I found it to be the perfect university for me, blending the college experience with young adulthood, all within the beautiful, creative, bustling city of Montreal.
I’m in the business faculty, but I’m more drawn to people who are artistic and creative, and I had no trouble finding them. The social life is ideal for people who want both school community but don’t want to be trapped in the university bubble. Almost all students live off-campus after their first year, allowing them to practice independence early on.
The academic experience varies (as it does at every school), and again, it depends largely on what you’re looking for. The foundation of a bachelor of commerce degree is strong, and you can choose a pathway that suits your needs. School can be fairly easy or challenging, depending on what classes you choose.
The campus is beautiful (though constantly under construction…) and campus life is strong, especially when it’s warm out. There are lots of activities, clubs, and intramural sports to take part in, and there are many workspaces where you can study, socialize, eat, etc. including a great campus bar that hosts game nights, music shows, and more.
I can’t imagine having gone anywhere but McGill. There’s something very distinct about the McGill student experience that I don’t think you can find at every school. I’d say the only downside is the weather — but if you can stand the cold like me, it’s worth it!
