Western as a whole is a good school for anyone looking to have that “university experience” in Canada. It is very easy to get involved in activities and clubs you like, easy to talk to the professors and land internships/research opportunities. Western’s political science program is thorough and offers a wide variety of courses students can take based on interest. However, the courses are mostly taught from a western liberal international lense so keep that in mind. Overall a good school and program.
View moreWestern University offers a great orientation program for first-year students, however, the support is limited following this. I found that initially, students find they have opportunities to interact with others however, over time, these opportunities are limited. Compared to other post-secondary institutions in Canada, Western University is very individualist and there is a lack of support systems that prioritize students.
View moreMy program is an Honours Specialisation in Politics Philosophy and Economics and my favourite part of the program is the flexibility I have to choose what I want to study and focus on. The professors are usually pretty good, but it’s a hit or miss in summer. There’s a diverse option of classes if you utilise the courses offered by affiliate campuses which offer many non western oriented classes. You can do up to 1.0 credit from an affiliate per year and request more if needed.
View moreMoving away to Western University is a big change, one that involves a lot of courage and determination for a good education. Being over two hours away from my hometown, I had no idea what to expect out in London. After completion of my first year, I can honestly say that Western is a great school and I couldn’t be happier with my choice. From the friendly and brilliant professors to the cooperative and welcoming student body, from residence life to academic kinship, Western University truly is a place for you to grow as a student and a person.
