It really can’t go any worse at this point – I’m at the fourth year and please don’t go here unless you want a lousy medical degree. There is no material provided, most professors/doctors are below average in medical knowledge, English comprehension and interest to teach. Anyone who has studied medicine in a Western country will be shocked and left comatose if they see how medicine is thought in Bulgaria. There are students that finish this university and still become good doctors but only because they were ambitious and responsible. You have to study medicine alone, the professors are subpar and don’t give explanations most of the time. Some departments like Biology or hygiene are notorious for the worst reasons -professors get bribed to pass people, other professors fail everyone for no apparent reason, the attitude is unbelievable (“I will fail you because I’m bored”) and of course suspicious how some still work in this uni after being trialed for asking students for money, or how the deans whole family is somehow involved in the most controversial departments. Avoid this university at any cost – you can become a good doctor, hell even a better one from ANY other country. I doubt that even third world countries over worse education

The level of education is fine, there is a lot of stress involved, but that’s normal for a specialty like Medicine. However, I strongly dislike the lack of organisation, last-minute changes of the program that occur every day. It’s chaotic and brings additional stress to all the students.
View moreA great place to study medicine with a lot of energetic and really intelligent professors, but a system that really needs a change. Due to its fees it is a great place for foreigners to study, plus life in the city of Sofia is relatively inexpensive too.
