UFMG is truly special – great professors, top-notch research, and a welcoming international relationship with the world.
As an Engineering student currently pursuing a double degree in France, I’ve experienced both worlds. Studying at a top French school, I observed that UFMG stands out for its teaching quality and outstanding labs, even in a developing country.
The professors here not only excel academically but also inspire students to explore the scientific realm. UFMG’s commitment to excellence in engineering is evident. The high-quality labs provide hands-on experience, bridging the gap between theory and practice. Unfortunately, for engineering students, the university isn’t very open to relations with private companies, but this is a general issue in Brazilian universities.
What makes UFMG even more unique is its global outlook. The university values international connections, offering diverse programs and partnerships worldwide. As someone in a dual-degree program, I appreciate how UFMG’s openness to the world enriches academic journeys, preparing students for global challenges and a multicultural point of view. Not only does UFMG offer multiple opportunities to its students, but it also welcomes international students from different countries, creating a rich environment on the Pampulha campus.
The campus is filled with life, featuring numerous student activities and natural surroundings. It’s great to see well-preserved nature in the middle of the city. With more than five libraries and a robust Wi-Fi network on campus, you can also study in various spaces. Additionally, UFMG provides multiple opportunities, including free language courses.

View moreUFMG is well known for its excellence. The environment is warm and welcoming, and the professors are both demanding and caring. I’ve had the best tutoring, providing a creative and challenging journey.
View moreIf you like contemporary art this is the place for you, but if you are more into the classic academy (learning the old master’s techniques), this is not what you are looking for. The “Escola de Belas Artes UFMG” (School of Fine Arts) is the name of the art school of the Federal University of Minas Gerais. The school is well known in Brazil and a lot of good and important artists held their studies there. In the hall of professors, there are still important artists giving classes and passing their experience and knowledge to young students/artists. There’s plenty of room to develop your personal work (ateliers), the library is very rich and you can pick up books not only in the art library (which is actually not very big but has plenty of important books) but also on the whole campus. The complexity of libraries is amazing.
My only problem with the school is the lack of professors that still work with classical drawing. Most of them are more into the contemporary manifestation of art such as performance, installations, ready-mades, videos, conceptual art, and this kind of stuff. Which for me had no problem since I really like contemporary art, but I also like drawing techniques, so I needed to study all by myself since no professor would give me the knowledge I was searching for. Also, some of my friends who were more into classical art (painting and drawing) felt that they were not in the right place since they would not have any professor to guide them through this type of art.
View moreWas great experience for me! UFMG is one of the best universities in Brazil and in the world. There are many good professors and the brightest students. Was a pleasure having studied there. I’ve got there a financial pos graduation.
