The Federal University of Rio de Janeiro is the best university in the country, among the best in Latin America. Teaching, research and extension make life at the university incomparable, in addition to all student assistance given through scholarships, housing, food, transport, etc.

The university is filled with the best professors who practice serious and detailed studies towards a great diversity of fields. UFRJ campus is pleasantly large, It contains a free system of public transport inside so nobody has to walk considerable distances and 3 university restaurants which charge low prices.
The friends, experiences and the profound acknowledgement is worth all the facilities and accommodation issues every single student has to deal with unless you need to live in one of the university accommodations (where basic conditions are much more compromised).
I strongly recommend Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro if you are a local in the city or the state, particularly if you are up to Arts and Humanities like me.
