Overall, I enjoy this program so far. I’ve learned a ton of things and remain motivated to continue learning until graduation.
Bruges is a beautiful and peaceful city; it’s cool to discover it and live in it.
Also, the university helps students a lot (e.g Stuvo) and put a great effort to make you feel welcom and shows a high interest to take care of their students in their multiple aspect (organisation, psychologie, etc.)
It’s easy to talk to teachers and also get answers via email. I’m always getting proper information from the staff, and I am never left without an answer, which is a great point!
I wanted to give 4 stars at the beginnig due to a certain lack of communication and organisation for certain courses, but I choose to keep it 5 stars because I started this program with an interest for Cyber Security and now it becomes more than that, I’ll not say “passion” as everyone use to say, because passion is a very powerful word that I which I’ll get closer to it by the end of this degree!
Sincerely,
Youssef
View moreI spent one semester at Howest as an Erasmus student and unfortunately my experience was very disappointing. The biggest issue was the attitude of several teachers and staff members. I often felt that students were not treated with respect and that some teachers were rude, arrogant, dismissive, and unwilling to help when support was needed.
In particular, my experiences in the CTF course, the Web Pentesting teacher, and one of the IT Law teachers were very negative. Instead of creating a supportive learning environment, they often made me feel unwelcome and uncomfortable asking questions. As an exchange student, I expected more professionalism and respect from the teaching staff.
The facilities were average and nothing special. I also felt there were not enough activities or opportunities for international students to meet people and integrate. Because of this, I often felt lonely and isolated during my stay.
While I enjoyed experiencing Belgium and meeting some fellow students, the academic environment and lack of support made this one of the most disappointing educational experiences I have had. Based on my personal experience, I would not recommend Howest to other exchange students. I believe significant improvements are needed in student support, professionalism, and the way students are treated.
