Disappointing Experience

I spent one semester at Howest as an Erasmus student and unfortunately my experience was very disappointing. The biggest issue was the attitude of several teachers and staff members. I often felt that students were not treated with respect and that some teachers were rude, arrogant, dismissive, and unwilling to help when support was needed.

In particular, my experiences in the CTF course, the Web Pentesting teacher, and one of the IT Law teachers were very negative. Instead of creating a supportive learning environment, they often made me feel unwelcome and uncomfortable asking questions. As an exchange student, I expected more professionalism and respect from the teaching staff.

The facilities were average and nothing special. I also felt there were not enough activities or opportunities for international students to meet people and integrate. Because of this, I often felt lonely and isolated during my stay.

While I enjoyed experiencing Belgium and meeting some fellow students, the academic environment and lack of support made this one of the most disappointing educational experiences I have had. Based on my personal experience, I would not recommend Howest to other exchange students. I believe significant improvements are needed in student support, professionalism, and the way students are treated.
