The university of Sydney is one of the premiere educational institutions around the world and especially in Oceana with a 30% international students.

My experience at the university enhanced my cultural competency and professionalism through both education and program based assessments in a group setting. The university encourages students to work collaboratively in small groups ensuring optimal outcomes for students whilst creating lasting memories.

I would encourage who is interested in attending to speak to an alumni to discuss no only the program but what Sydney has to offer. Studying at the USyD is an amazing educational opportunity but also an amazing travel destination to one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

The course load at University of Sydney is pretty good as you would be able to manage your own timetable – you can choose the days and times in which you want to have your classes. For me I was able to put all my classes in 2 days, which gives me a lot of flexibility.

The campus is a vibrant place of different cultures, with students from all over the world. This diversity enriches classroom discussions and fosters a global perspective that is essential in today’s interconnected world. One of the unique aspects of student life here is the plethora of cultural events organized by various student societies. From food festivals to cultural showcases, there’s always something happening that allows us to celebrate our differences.
However, the university experience is not without its challenges. The cost of living in Sydney is notoriously high, and many students struggle to balance academics with part-time jobs. Additionally, while the university promotes inclusivity, some students have reported feeling marginalized in certain social circles. It’s crucial to seek out communities that resonate with your values and interests.

The university is multicultural, meaning it has student with various cultural background, from America, Africa, Asia, Europe, and of course Australia and New Zealand. It is a comprehensive uni, containing all majors and subjects from math to social science, from psychology to engineering, and music to political science. I personally studied master in data science, where I enjoyed greatly the research component integrated in my program. I worked on a project at the intersection of psychology and AI that I am passionate about. The diverse and comprehensive uni means that you can find your passion here for whatever project or career you are envisioning. The professors are always looking to collaborate with students are their projects of interest, and they are more than friendly and approachable for research activities.

Furthermore, Sydney is a lovely city to explore. I personally love music and art, and USYD is only 30min bus away from sydney opera house. I frequented there for operas, ballets and concerts. But there are multiple performance venues, more than four that I have also went to within this range that displayed contemporary dances and musicals that I also loved. The university also carries one museum and an art gallery that I frequented. The museum contains a Pompeii city built with Lego, and the art gallery display USYD’s art student work. One piece of burning candle, exquisitely carved and huge in size, especially impressed me.

One thing I don’t like about USYD is that the medical insurance provided does not cover dental or chiropractic. Teeth cleaning was quite expensive for me.

All in all, I enjoyed USYD. It was rewarding and enjoyable. It has beautiful weather, culture, and huge support system in place to help international students adapt to the local study and life.
