What Is an Art and Design Degree?

It is considered that generation Y is the generation with the most creative minds. Thus, millennials tend to express themselves through various forms, such as Art and Design.

Degrees in Art and Design aim to empower students to use art as a tool for self-expression. This degree is designed to develop visual perception as well as visual literacy. As a result, students gain practical skills in order to turn their imaginative ideas into reality.

Unlike many programmes, Art and Design courses improve students’ attention to detail, creative thinking, and freedom in the decision-making process.

Benefits of an Art and Design Degree

Art and Design is a competitive industry. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to be equipped with the necessary skills to have higher chances of being employed in this field.

In general, graduates from this degree have a wide range of employment options once they finish their studies. The advantage of an Art and Design course is that you are highly employable for other industries too – there are numerous courses that would help to develop specialised skills for specific careers.

Some particular job areas include – apart from being an artist – community worker, fashion designer, graphic designer, illustrator, advertising executive, and multimedia worker. Many Art and Design graduates find themselves using their skills in marketing, media, or even teaching.

Art and Design Degree Structure

Art and Design degrees are part of Bachelor of Art (BA) Degrees. Courses’ structure and length depend on what type of programme you choose to study and the country where you choose to study. Usually, Art and Design courses are a three-year commitment, although there are countries – like the USA – where you need to study for at least four years.

The most remarkable aspect about this degree is that it emphasises the practical knowledge. Courses are often taught in studios, as a form of workshops. Additionally, students are assessed based on their portfolios of work, which may be exhibited to the public.

UTS - Extremely Relevant and Practical Subjects

Highly recommend UTS! Their subjects are so relevant to the degree and modern day life. The subjects offered are also very practical and not 100% theory so you are equipped to start working and have experience in your field of study.

Education at University of Technology Sydney

University of Technology Sydney has a strong academic faculty in Design and Architecture. The Bachelor of Design in Visual Communication can best be described as a study of graphic design. The key learning of this course is the idea of ‘critical thinking’ which involves a research and empathy based approach to thinking about design solutions. The course also facilitates the growth of your design practice with the help of experienced tutors from industry. Whilst a portion of my studies was hampered by COVID-19 and lockdown restrictions (understandably so) the fact that I would love to continue my studies through Honours goes to show how much I have enjoyed the learning experience after being able to go back on campus.

    Scholarship attraction system

I am about to enter the Sydney University of technology as an exchange student. I can talk about how I feel before I study. From the beginning of the application process, the school has given very comprehensive help. I’d like to book a house in Sydney in London. Therefore, the accommodation Department of UTS was contacted to explain the situation. It is difficult to book accommodation because you can no longer see the actual house overseas. UTS school gave very detailed suggestions and even attached a link to each day’s suggestions. Which websites are rental websites in Australia? What measures can I take to get a reliable stay, and the school will provide legal aid if there are problems. This is what I think is very good about this school. It will actively and patiently answer all your questions. As for the improvements, I would like to talk about scholarships. UTS has many types of scholarships and even has an inquiry system suitable for your scholarships. However, there are very few teaching awards or project-supported scholarships that have really won academic achievements. I think as students, they also need some financial support to make movies or complete projects in the media, which is a move to develop more talents.
