Established in 1971, Griffith University officially opened its doors in 1975 in South East Queensland with only 451 students on 1 campus with 4 schools: Humanities, Science, Environmental Studies, and Modern Asian Studies. In addition, this was the first university in Australia to introduce Asian Studies and Environmental Studies degrees. 20 years after, there was an expansion due to a series of reforms in Australia, resulting in a union of colleges and universities. Therefore, in 1990, the Mount Gravatt Teacher’s College and the Gold Coast College of Advanced Education became official campuses of Griffith University. One year later, the Queensland Conservatorium of Music also became an official part of Griffith University, and in 1992 the last expansion was made, with the Queensland College of Art also becoming part of Griffith University.
In 1998, Logan Campus was opened in Meadowbrook, south of Brisbane. This campus was established to specifically address the needs of the Logan City area.

With 5 campuses, Griffith University currently offers a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and research degrees in the areas of criminology and law, education, environment, business and government, planning and architecture, health, engineering and information technology, humanities and languages, music, science and aviation, and visual and creative arts.
Student Life at Griffith University
Griffith has in 2018 over 44,000 students and more than 4,000 employees spread out on their campuses and has a large amount of different communities, with great cultural, intellectual, and sporting difference. Griffith University students are represented by two student organisations and both of them offer different activities, but all with the purpose of engaging the students with the community and encouraging all the students to join and take a stand. Students from non-English-speaking backgrounds have an English Language Institute at their disposal and have a wide variety of courses to help them enhance their English for travel, study, or work purposes.
