Where should I start? My time at UBA was both the best and worst of my life.
Of course the first thing I had to do was to enroll. One would thing that would be an easy task. Wrong. If their offices are open, which doesn’t happen that often, you’re always missing something. You think you have all the paperwork needed? Think again. It should be quick, right? Prepare yourself to spend the entire day standing and waiting for your turn just to find out their system is down. Once you are in things don’t get easier. The university is underfunded, overcrowded and chaotic. But if you are able to survive the bureaucracy hell it is, you’ll be set for life. You’ll learn how to deal with unexpected and absurd situations in the best way possible.
Now that that’s out of the way let’s get to talk about the education. You’ll be taught by the best professors in the region. It doesn’t matter what you are studying, you’ll always get the best of the best. That’s actually the reason for UBA being overcrowded and chaotic, it’s available for everyone who wants to study and for free! The underfunded part makes it so the people who are there are the most passionate about the subjects, some of them don’t even get paid. Yet it’s ranked amongst the best universities in the world. The amount of effort you have to put in to be up to date with the curriculum will make you feel like you’re on your own. You’re not. I assure you your classmates will be there for you, all of them sharing a love for knowledge. Do rely on them for help, that’s the best advice I can give you.
Degrees at UBA are so extensive that you’ll be graduating with the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree and a master’s all in one go. That’s just amazing.
I can’t say I didn’t struggle but it was worth it.
