University College Cork – UCC

University College Cork is a world-class university that opened its gates to only 115 students in 1849 and now has over 21,000 students. The university was named “Irish University of the Year” by the “Sunday Times” on five occasions; once more in 2017. UCC is known for the outstanding quality of its academic programmes. The courses are internationally recognised which helped UCC in gaining a global reputation that attracts international students from all over the world. The university is one of Ireland’s leading research institutes, with among the highest research income in the state.

Tuition Fees

Tuition fees vary between 2685€ and 5500€. In addition to the tuition fees, there’s a student contribution fee of 3000€. Don’t let this scare you off though as the state will pay the tuition fees for Irish / EU students who satisfy the Free Fee criteria. To be eligible, a student must be a first-time undergraduate student, be of EU nationality or have official refugee status, have been resident in an EU member state for at least three years before their entry to an approved course, be studying a full-time undergraduate course of at least two years’ duration of the first time.

Location

Application Process

If you have decided on the course that you would like to study, then it’s time to apply for it. Applications for 1st-year entry of all full-time undergraduate honours degree programmes are processed through the Central Applications Office (CAO). Applicants from Ireland and Europe are asked to apply online.

Usually, your applications should be received in the CAO on or before 1 February of the proposed year of entry. However, a late application may be made between 6 March and 1 May (restricted subjects such as Music, Drama Studies, Social Science – Youth and Community Work, Social Work – Mature Students, Medicine are excluded from this; please make sure to meet the first application deadline).

According to Ellen, the university has so much to offer in point of academics and social life. She enjoyed the lecturers’ diversity and their professionalism. Another big advantage of studying at UCC was that the university has connections with other high-class universities around the globe which made it easy for Ellen to study at her chosen location in the Netherlands.
