Communication is a bridge between theory and hands-on work. Although it’s more theory… If you’re looking for something in media, design, or marketing I suggest you pass on Comms. It’s a jack of all trades but a master of nothing type of degree or program at least. The companies are looking for a niche, experienced workers, so you’re better off doing PR, graphic design, or videography. Learning a lot of theory and book knowledge is good if you want to go the academic route, but even within academia it’s super competitive and my college at least didn’t have as much opportunity or resources as other fields of study like the sciences etc. The degree helped a little bit, but most of the professional experience that has opened doors for me was self-learned online with free resources.
My experience at the University of Uyo was a mixed bag. On the plus side, I loved the sense of community and camaraderie among students. The lecturers in my department were knowledgeable and supportive, and I appreciated the opportunities for research and personal growth. However, I struggled with several issues. The hostel facilities were not ideal, and one major concern was the no-cooking policy in the hostels, which was quite challenging for many students. Additionally, there were times when administrative processes felt slow and bureaucratic. Another major concern was the high billing system, which felt excessive at times. Furthermore, I felt that the curriculum focused too much on theoretical aspects, leaving us somewhat unprepared for real-life practical issues. The infrastructure and facilities in some areas of the campus were also inadequate and outdated. Overall, I'd say UNIUYO has its strengths and weaknesses, but it was a valuable experience that helped me grow as a person and a professional.
In my opinion, MUHAS is an exceptional medical university for anyone aiming to pursue a healthcare career. The overall experience has been deeply rewarding, blending the study of complex medical topics with real-world patient interactions. Being part of patient management alongside medical specialists, who also serve as our tutors, has provided a practical and enriching learning experience. Despite the continuous stress from numerous exams throughout the academic year, the education and training received are unparalleled. What I Liked About MUHAS 1. Fascination with Medicine: The entire field of medicine at MUHAS is incredibly engaging. The academic programs are well-structured, offering a comprehensive understanding of medical sciences. 2. Student Associations and Clubs: Being involved in various associations and clubs has significantly enriched my experience. I actively participated in the Tanzania Medical Students Association (TAMSA), the MUHAS Innovation Club, and the MUHAS Research and Publication Club. These platforms provided opportunities for networking, professional growth, and exploring innovative ideas. 3. Expertise of Tutors: The faculty at MUHAS comprises highly skilled and knowledgeable medical specialists. Their guidance and mentorship have been instrumental in shaping my medical career. The hands-on learning and practical sessions have been particularly beneficial in understanding the real-world applications of our studies. What I Disliked About MUHAS 1. Stress from Exams: The frequency and intensity of exams, especially clinical exams, have been a significant source of stress. While these exams are crucial for our training and development as competent doctors, the pressure can be overwhelming at times. Despite this challenge, the rigorous assessment methods ensure that we are well-prepared for the demands of the medical profession, reinforcing the importance of resilience and thorough knowledge. Would I Recommend MUHAS? Absolutely. I wholeheartedly recommend MUHAS to any student aspiring to a career in healthcare. It is the best medical university in Tanzania and ranks among the top 10 universities in Africa. The robust academic programs, extensive practical experience, and access to expert faculty make it an ideal institution for medical education.
Akwa Ibom State University is one of the prestigious institution in Nigeria. The University has shaped thousands of grads into world impacting leaders and mentors in their respective field. It has through through highly intelligent lecturers ascertain the transfer of knowledge meaningfully. But, I must say, there are also some slack to the functionality. The University follows a defined curriculum which every year, same things, same way, same courses were taught in the same classroom. It doesn't give chance to keep track of new discoveries or probably push students to discovering one. Student are more or less pressured to cram and digest when required. There's no avenue to give individual perspective but same thing was given by the lecturers. To the end, if I was the leadership of the University, I would ensure the review of the curriculum give chance to new discoveries and then encourage the students to do something with what they learn even while in school.
