Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV), also referred to as the Central University of Venezuela is a prestigious public university in Caracas in Venezuela. It is a renowned university- it is the highest ranking higher education institution in the country. It consistently ranks among the top 20 in Latin America. Ever since its foundation in 1721, it has been training highly skilled graduates. The school is the oldest university in Venezuela; it is one of the oldest in the Western Hemisphere. Its roots can be traced back to the Colegio Santa Rosa de Lima in 1673. It gained official university status in 1721, when it became the Universidad Real y Pontificia de Caracas. The main campus was designed by Carlos Raúl Villanueva and is considered a masterpiece of urban planning. In 2000, the campus was also declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The school is comprised of 11 faculties, that are home to 40 departments and five research centres, which are spread across the country. Today, 54,222 undergraduate and 8,317 graduate students are enrolled at further education at UCV. UCV has a wide range of degree programmes, in a variety of study areas. The degree options include bachelor’s and master’s in the fields of Arts & Humanities (Architecture, Languages), Social Sciences (Geography, Communication & Media Studies, Politics & International Studies, Sociology), Engineering & Technology (Chemical Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Civil Engineering), Computer Science, Business & Economics (Economics & Econometrics, Accounting & Finance), Physical Sciences (Geology, Environmental, Earth & Marine Sciences, Mathematics & Statistics, Physics & Astronomy, Chemistry), Clinical / pre-clinical & Health (Medicine & Dentistry), Life Sciences (Veterinary Science, Biological Sciences), Education, Law, as well as Psychology. IlseVEMy time at one of the most emblematic collegesI’m currently a student at the Medicine program at Universidad Central de Venezuela and I can say that being a part of this college has changed my life. I have not only learned from excellent professors and professionals, I also have made lifelong friends and learnt a lot of what it means to be a Doctor. I have learnt the importance of persistence, resilience and work ethic and how impactful a Doctor is to society. Not only that, I have a new understanding of the importance of all medical professionals, including nurses, nutritionists and physical therapists. Not everything is rose colored though, I had to wait four years to start my program because of multiple delays and internal issues. That waiting time really made me think and sometimes I wanted to give up, but I realized that being a doctor was my calling, my mission in life and my time in college showed me what a great decision I made. All of the things I have learnt and all of the experiences I’ve had so far are worth it and I wouldn’t change them for anything.

Without a doubt, the best house of studies in Venezuela, for 300 years, has the best professors in all its faculties, and its very good facilities.
The best professionals in this country have come out of this University. It is par excellence the first option for future high school graduates, due to its tradition and excellence.
Despite the ups and downs it has experienced due to the economic and political situation in the country, I can’t stop recommending it highly.

The Central University of Venezuela is undoubtedly the highest house of studies in Venezuela, Presidents have come out of it, Doctors who found the leprosy vaccine, a Saint who is Jsoe Gregorio Hernandez, Thousands of politicians, Presidents, great professionals in all areas, I am always proud to be a graduate of the house that overcomes the shadows, only those of us who walk under the clouds of the Aula Magna understand what it feels like, there are UCV graduates in the best companies and largest corporations in the world, and level is Excellent.
