What Is a History Degree?

History is one of the most desired academic degrees amongst students when it comes to pursuing a Bachelor of Arts.

History degrees are designed to teach you to move beyond yourself and envision other worlds, to explore the interplay between material circumstances and human character.  History combines the careful analysis of evidence with compelling storytelling. Moreover, History degrees aim to increase cultural sensitivity and literacy.

This degree is divided into various areas of expertise such as Classical History or Art History, which will help students gain relevant knowledge for themselves.

Benefits of a History Degree

History is one of the most versatile undergraduate majors, due to the fact that it touches upon all forms of human endeavour from arts and languages to science and economics.

Candidates studying a History course will also be taught how to effectively collect, analyse, interpret, and arrange a wide variety of sources into persuasive arguments. Thus, having these skills will increase the chance of any graduate finding a job, no matter if it is in this field or not.

A report from Georgetown University’s Center on Education illustrates that graduates from History majors have the highest salary amongst graduates from all other humanities majors.

History Degree Structure

History courses are usually a three-year commitment and offer many academic programmes ranging from foundational courses to specialised ones. Some universities even have site excavations, through which students gain more practical knowledge.

Like most of the degrees, any History course concludes with a dissertation in any chosen area of interest.

    So far so Good

I’ve been enjoying American University and the individuals I’ve met so far. I have had a lot of experiences, and I wouldn’t trade the school or the neighborhood for anything. I adore it and think it’s the best school around. Although my program is demanding and well-known at the institution, it could use stronger advice and management. I have wonderful professors who are not only smart and experienced, but also compassionate and understanding. The student body is tenacious and demands accountability from the administration.

    Good credential assured

I have never taken a class where I thought the instructor had the necessary credentials, and it is obvious that academics and professors are the primary focus of AU. The campus arboretum supports the excellent teaching, but there are so many other features that I wonder about my school’s overall reputation. The cuisine is horrible and housing on campus is a lottery. Greek life is gone, but the party culture has essentially disappeared. DC is a fantastic playground for individuals over 21, but younger folks may have a hard time blending in. The most egregious transgressions are the responsibility of the internship team and AU administration. Most AU students are offered internships, but they don’t really help you.

    A great decision education

A great decision! The two most popular majors at American University are political science and international studies. As a result, both programs have attracted top-notch faculty and provide a wide range of courses that enable specialization, breadth, and depth. educational depth that is amazing. However, in general, the workload is manageable and it is possible to take advantage of a variety of extracurricular and employment opportunities while maintaining a high GPA. The workload varies greatly depending on the courses taken and the professor teaching the class. American University offers more opportunities for internships and employment.

    A great place for education

A wise choice! At American University, political science and international studies are the two most sought-after majors. Because of this, both programs have drawn highly qualified professors and provide a diverse selection of courses that allow for specialization, breadth, and depth. Amazing depth in terms of education. However, the workload is often doable and there are many of extracurricular and employment possibilities that may be taken advantage of while still maintaining a high GPA. Depending on the courses studied and the professor guiding the class, the workload varies substantially. More internship and job options are available through American University.

    The American University

The education and professors offered by the American University are truly amazing. In the year I was in college, I felt I grew more intellectually than in all my high school years. Educationally, I highly recommend this university. . It also has a very cerebral culture and that means student life is different here. The best thing about this place is that everyone has a passion for something, usually many things, and it shows in the many different student groups out there. I feel like I’ve been incredibly well-educated because I’ve been to AU.

    AU experience

AU is a fantastic university that offers many opportunities to its students. For starters, it offers very generous financial aid, with different types of merit aid given to many students. During my first semester, I was accepted into the NU in program which allows you to study abroad for your first semester. It can be quite overwhelming at first and it’s certainly not a traditional college experience, but it’s 100% worth it. Gain a great experience in another country and learn to be independent. The party scene is definitely lacking, but if you’re the gregarious type, you can find your way to the partying in the surrounding colleges which are close enough. As for academics, my first year at AU was fantastic and I have had many excellent teachers who have met all my needs. So far I would 100% recommend this school to anyone. The accommodation is comparable to most other colleges in that the accommodation for freshmen is not great. Also, AU is definitely not a party school, even if that doesn’t mean people don’t like having fun. It’s just that they aren’t annoying because of it. Overall, however, I think it’s a very good return on investment for multiple co-ops, definitely giving you an edge over other students.

AU - A College For People Who Want To Work Hard

My time at AU was the best time of my life. This university suited me perfectly. I loved my teachers and the campus was beautiful. The amount of work is significant and difficult, but it is worth it. I noticed that most of the students were under constant pressure and stress due to college difficulties. This is a college for people who want to work hard and get involved. They work with you to fulfill your life aspirations. They are willing to listen to you and see the best of you. It has very prestigious classrooms where your thinking is always tested. It is also located in an area with good weather and great people. It is a community that strives for diversity and improvement. I like going to my school. It’s a great place for me to really build my skills so that when I graduate I feel confident enough to go to the big pond. It’s very challenging, but it also challenges you independently in the sense that there’s not really a grip. I feel like when I go I’ll be more than prepared for the real world.

    I love AU

I like AU, I like my professors, organizations and people. I like professors who are always happy to teach and talk about things that may or may not be related to the class: they are very available for conversation and questions. The campus has a friendly and safe environment. Great diversity within this school, everyone has different backgrounds that contribute to higher education and many different viewpoints and experiences to contribute to each other. Education at AU is the one thing that has always been great for me. I only have very intelligent, engaging, caring and helpful teachers. I like that the classes are generally small as it allows for a better teacher-student and student-student relationship.

The Best College in DC - American University

I am in love with this school. Everyone is driven, accepting of others and actually very intellectual. You don’t just choose American for no reason. Being so close to DC (arguably the best located school in DC other than Georgetown), it’s only a short train stop away. The campus is clean, the buildings are nice (most are, but the ones that aren’t are gross), and overall great food options. Lots of clubs to join. Very passionate school. The university’s professors provide quality education and are always willing to help. Classes are small in size, providing a great learning environment where you get quality time with your professor. The staff are friendly and helpful, the freshman mentoring is outstanding, the professors bring great insights, and the students are just as wonderful. I honestly couldn’t have picked a better university, and even though we have to be online during the pandemic, I still feel like I gain the same amount of knowledge that I would have personally experienced.

    American University

The American University essentially represents exactly what the United States is – a melting pot! My school has people from all over the world with different religions, sexual orientations and interests. American University is also ranked among the top 100 schools in the nation, with a post-graduation employment rate of over 80%. It offers an amazing study abroad program that caters to its American sister universities abroad as well as non-American universities. As a liberal college, students have great freedom while maintaining order and discipline. There are many transportation options as well as carpooling. I own a car and use it to get to school because I don’t live on campus, but if you live on campus you don’t really need it.
