One of the things that UNT professes itself on most is the quality of the student life on campus and the amenities provided to students. The selection of classes is rather good and they are typically taught by high quality professors; some classes are taught by grad students who don’t seem to do much in the realm of teaching material and are basically homework robots but that is to be expected for 100 level classes. The price tag at UNT is hefty but not unmanageable and the campus is attractive and easy to navigate and, as the “Mean Green” school profess itself, green. With all of this out of the way, there has been a large problem with their main selling point as of late. Many students have not felt welcome on a campus that prides itself on welcoming and embracing diversity. While on campus crime doesn’t seem to be a contributor there are people and groups who make those of us on campus who may be LGBTQ feel a little unwelcome. During my time here this hasn’t been going on for long but the university has a history of some groups being blatantly racist; those groups were banned from the campus which was a win at the time but the president doesn’t seem to be handling this most recent issue all too well. Campus police have not been treating protestors well and the president has seemingly does not want to take a side. To be honest I think this school is great and while I’ve loved my time here I don’t know how much I can endorse it with these issues still going on.
