Attending the University of Texas at Austin has taught me a lot of lessons both regarding the University as a whole and the students. UT is an amazing school, it has many amazing professors who truly care about you, but it also does have its downsides. One of them being the lack of mental health services. Many of the staff are underpaid and overworked, thus leaving many students feeling clueless on what they can do in a crisis. It is definitely something UT needs to fix. Next, because UT is in the city of Austin, it does provide many opportunities for students regarding internships and job prospects. I feel as though there is so much to do as an undergrad. Also, because UT is in Austin, it doesn’t always feel like you are “trapped” on campus. There is so much to do, and so many sites to see in the beautiful city of Austin! I would say though, as a POC, it can be hard to find other groups that can relate to you regarding race, especially because UT is predominately white. I do think it does take a lot of time and socializing to find POC groups that you can connect with. When it comes to education, UT does a great job at providing many opportunities to its students. As a government and economics major, I always have openings thrown at me. I would recommend this school to other people who are interested! I would just keep my critiques into consideration.
