Florida State University’s Technical Theatre program is truly a hidden gem for anyone passionate about working behind the scenes in theatre. One of the standout aspects of the program is just how hands-on it is from the very beginning. Whether you’re interested in lighting, sound, set design, costumes, or stage management, you’ll be gaining real-world experience in no time. The opportunities to get involved are endless—you’re not just learning theory in a classroom, you’re constantly applying it in productions, labs, and collaborative projects.

There’s no shortage of chances to build your resume and refine your skills. FSU puts on a wide variety of shows each semester, and students are encouraged to take on roles in every area of production. This gives you a chance to explore different interests and gain experience in areas you might not have originally considered.

The faculty are absolutely incredible. Every professor and instructor is passionate, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in your success. They bring a wealth of professional experience and are always approachable, offering guidance and mentorship both in and out of class. It really feels like they want you to grow—not just as a theatre artist, but as a person.

Class sizes are small enough that you don’t feel lost in the crowd. You get to know your professors and classmates well, which makes for a really supportive and collaborative learning environment. Everyone is so welcoming and friendly; it’s easy to make friends and feel like part of a community from day one.

If you’re looking for a program where you’ll be challenged, supported, and constantly learning, FSU’s Technical Theatre program is a perfect choice. The combination of hands-on experience, dedicated faculty, and a warm, inclusive atmosphere makes it an amazing place to grow both professionally and personally.

Florida State has great night life at all the universities. That’s not my purpose for college but it is good to have fun to let out stress. People that visit always look forward to visiting again. Tallahassee is a great place, really know how to treat visitors.

I enjoyed my stay at Florida state university with it’s flood of extracurriculars. It has a state of the art gym you can even have classes in it. I’d love more attention paid to the parking lot it gets harder by the to find parking spaces.

FSU’s campus is really comfortable to be in, I found the institution to be quite large and found it hard and confusing to navigate but got a hang of it. The facilities here are standard and are of great assist to us students and lecturers as well.
