The faculty, while engaged in and conducting their own research, were genuinely eager and concerned with the learning of their students. Faculty seemed to understand that more meaningful learning occurs when they focused more on developing interpersonal relationships than only on content delivery. Some of my professors now also carry the title of mentors and friends as our relationships continue 25 years after graduation.
