What is a Management degree?

A Management degree builds a strong foundation in a wide variety of fields including business, finance, economics and marketing. It develops students’ understanding of business practices, structures, business theory, business strategy and research as well as global economies and financial markets. Doing a Management Degree also allows students to gain skills that enable them to work with financial and numerical data effectively.

Management degrees cover different managerial roles, such as Human Resource (HR) management, hospitality management, innovation management, operations management, etc. They can be specialized into one of the areas mentioned above or follow a more general approach that covers most of these areas.

The range of management degrees is huge and includes Business Management, Management, Marketing Management, etc. They are predominantly offered in the business departments/business schools/management schools of different universities.

Benefits of a Management degree

One of the main benefits of this degree is that Management is a broad discipline, which keeps students’ career options open.

Management degrees could have a very practical focus, which is an opportunity for students to gain experience in the process of completing their degree before having started their professional careers. Management courses usually offer work placements and practical modules, which include business simulations and business creation in a simulated environment. Acquiring practical experience through these opportunities could make students stand out from the crowd in the job market once they graduate. Research-oriented Management degrees also exist for those who prefer the theoretical aspects of such a degree. Most courses, however, have established a good balance between theory and practice in order to meet the needs of all students.

Management degrees also prepare students to serve the managerial role across a wide range of areas, including HR management, hospitality management, innovation management, operations management, etc. Students can specialize in one particular area or focus on gaining knowledge across all of these areas thanks to the high availability of different management courses.

Additionally, there is a high demand for management professionals in the contemporary business world. Therefore, taking a management course is an opportunity for students to kick-start their careers and occupy a higher position in the organizational hierarchy.

management degree Structure

Management courses usually begin by introducing students to different areas covered by the managerial role, such as organizational management, business environment, statistics, accounting and finance, business growth, etc. After the first year, institutions allow students to explore the management discipline into more depth by delivering specialized modules and offering optional modules, which enable students to choose subjects that interest them the most and are most relevant to their career aspirations.

Management degrees take 3 years to complete in the UK. Best experience of my life

I was previously in a community college and the University of California has a strong transfer culture. I stayed in the transfer dormitories, which was indeed a memorable and worthwhile decision. I also enjoy being in the Los Angeles area, but I anticipate spending a large amount of money on transport services. For longer distances, public transportation is less effective. The weather is nice and I haven’t had a bad class yet but I think it all balls down to your department. I think it was not quite a hustle for me to find flexible on-campus work. The food is tasty and I’m so in love with the meal voucher idea. You have the meal swipe ticket that can be used at the various food courts on campus. Sports games can be extremely time-consuming.

    Amazing campus

Lots to do: Berkeley is a small and diverse city. Eclectic tastes range from Ethiopian to Italian food and you’ll find poetry readings, music venues, cinemas and more within walking distance. San Francisco Bay is also just 20 minutes away on public transportation, which opens the door to so many other fun activities: visiting Alcatraz, going clubbing, going to Ghiradelli Square, and so much more.

    UCLA'2024

I finally understand the hype of IV League schools. UCLA is a big part of my life and where I am now. It feels forever ago I enrolled in. I would suggest that you partake in administrative internships as it helps you become an insider in the univ and it really helps you to understand how the world plays and it also pays a decent amount to carry out your expenses.

Best experience a student could have internationally

I did my exchange semester at UCLA and it was better than expected. The teachers were great and very didactic. We also received supplemental materials and those were also very complete. What I liked the most was actually the content of the classes, all so interesting like for example International finance, valuation and M&A. Of course, the Campus itself was also an amazing place to study and very welcoming, it is huge, and the infrastructure is very new and modern. Most of the classes had several working groups and that was a great way to get to know new people. It is fairly easy to find accommodation, there are several houses around campus, with different profiles, size and prices. There is also uptime support for most of them. Since the campus is in LA, there are a lot of activities you can do during the day or in the night, but the night life regarding clubbing is not the best because the clubs close too early (2am). For the new students I recommend that they travel as much as you can and try to meet new people always, to make it the best experience of their lives.

International Exchange Student Program - UCLA EXTENSION

I was a student in UCLA for my semester abroad and the whole course was better than expected because, even though the courses were relatively easy, the teachers were really good and had a strong professional background, which led to interesting discussions in classes. This was actually what I liked the most, because you know you are learning from people that have actually been in the market and know exactly how it works out there. I had subjects like Security Analysis, Valuation and International Finance, all very finance related but you can choose the ones that fit better with your interests. Regarding the student clubs, unfortunately there were not many student initiatives for exchange students, but there are many different initiatives for the local students. The campus is really big, and even though the buildings are old (UCLA is more than 100 years old), the infrastructure is relatively new and modern. The UCLA international team offers support to find the accommodation, but I personally think it wasn’t too easy because the demand is very high and the prices are generally high too because of that, so most of the students just end up searching for cheaper places on their own. The night life in Los Angeles is probably one of the best ones out there, you can probably find more than 5 parties per day in the city – the only downside is that they usually are over very early. My recommendation for the new students is to search for accommodation near the campus, as the best way to access it is by walking or riding a bike. My time in UCLA and living in Los Angeles was a blast and I recommend it to everyone.
