I got my Master’s and doctorate degrees at Grambling State University, Louisiana, United States of America. The university has an enviable research, instructional and learning environment. I rate the academic and non-academic staff very high. The libraries are state of arts married with the instructional equipment. The social life equally compliments the academic life. I lived in the students’ hostile, which had internet facilities. Conclusively, I do not have any reservations recommending Grambling State University to any prospective student.
View moreI am more than elated to briefly reminisce of my time at one of the original HBCU and outstanding band featuring the “The Orchesis.” Speaking of my alma mater and being a graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting ’94, I really wish as I approached the working world, there would have been more preparation in the curriculum for accounting majors to have electives which prepared for the CPA exam. Better yet, if there were some review courses offered as a perquisite for graduation. As I stepped out of the GSU doors into Corporate America. I was not prepared for the unanimous amounts of doors closing. As I felt, I put in the effort and look forward to enjoying the fruits of my labor. In spite of it all, I would always reflect what one of my professors stated to the class, “Once you graduate you may be competing with graduate from Stanford, Harvard and other elite ivy league schools. I want you to remember this –two plus two is four (2+2=4) regardless, to where you attend school. Do not be dismayed at the cost of attendance for you are just as equally qualified.” (I believe this was Mr. Cunningham – Tax and Principles of Accounting.) This always encouraged when faced with disappointment regarding yet another obstacle to hire me. As of to date, I am still so proud of how far GSU has come from then to now. In the midst of the tribulation (at least I felt like it was for me), I came, saw and conquered continued success because at the end of the day. All I needed was one “YES.” I have soared the corporate ladder as an Accountant delving into many different industries and areas of business. This could not have been done nor achieved without the opportunity to attend (which included taking classes which were not contributed towards required hours; contributed to me graduating a year later). As a proud alumnus, there is more memorable moments and experiences which I will keep locked in my memory–a lifetime. The HBCU experience is memorable and unforgettable.
