The University of Miami (UM) offers an appealing college experience defined by a successful balance of challenging academics and a stunning social environment, often described as a “tropical paradise.” Students benefit from a high-quality education delivered by accomplished faculty in relatively small class settings, providing opportunities for research and individualized attention, which helps prepare them well for competitive postgraduate programs and career.

Being the first in my family to attend university, I felt overwhelmed by the idea, especially at a place as impressive as the University of Miami. The campus offers outstanding facilities, activities, clubs, social events, and support services. The staff around campus and in student services are always friendly and helpful. As a parent to two wonderful girls, I hope I’ve inspired them to pursue higher education too — they’ve joined me at the library and in various departments many times and have always been warmly welcomed

I haven’t had any bad experiences because the teachers are very welcoming, and there are plenty of group activities. At first, I wasn’t comfortable since I didn’t know anyone, but working in groups helped me bond with my classmates. Over time, I became more at ease with them. The best part is gaining knowledge. I wouldn’t say there’s a worst part, but everyone learns differently. I pick things up quickly, but when I read a question on my own, I often don’t understand it right away — I have to read it multiple times before it clicks. While I may need extra time, others might not.

Coming from a non-English-speaking background as an international student, I have always felt well supported throughout my academic journey. The staff has been readily available to answer all my questions and needs, ensuring I never feel overlooked or disadvantaged. The university maintains equal opportunities for all students, regardless of their background or mode of study. Even as a distance learning Master’s student, I experience the same sense of inclusion and engagement as on-campus students.

I was introduced to the University of Miami by my sister, who is studying political science there. As an international student, my first impression was of a welcoming staff and student council, who helped me adjust to American culture. My time studying English there was excellent, and the highlight was definitely the vibrant international community and the friendships I made.
