The professors who all work in the design of buildings are super great, smart and professional professors with great teaching skills. Even though there are many great professors in this field, the entire graphic design curriculum needs a huge rework and rearrangement of the lessons. Freshmen through junior year in the graphic design major is mostly a waste of money because they’re basic skills that should be shortened or squeezed into one or two years. Junior year, nothing was being taught and it was mainly freestyling what we were doing. The two projects that were presented in one semester of the junior year were students learning how to use after effects better, but that can be done on our own time. The senior year is the only year that counts toward students’ portfolios. As someone who pays for their tuition on their own, I take investing my money into where I am spending my time, which matters a lot to me. Many students are struggling to find a graphic design internship because the field does not prepare you for your portfolio or showcase what jobs would need students to do. Instead, we’re taught basic skills that we need for projects that we have to do on our own time. There is no point in paying so much money for something we do on our own time.
