Many in the Minneapolis business community felt a need for a business school to be established at the university and over the years the school has been financially supported by various business partners. Perhaps the most significant of these partners is Curtis L. Carlson, who in 1986 gifted 25 million dollars to the school, and after which the institution is now named.
