The university has a vast amount of opportunities and societies which I personally love as it accommodates all abilities from university sport to college sports. It has a good balance for student life as someone that likes to go out but also stay in and do other things and my Constantine college timetable really accommodated this from club nights to movie nights in helping me meet different people. Furthermore, my accomodation is really nice and campus safety and other support have helped iron out issues quickly as I had issues with my plugs and it was resolved within an hour. I really like my college netball team and it has helped me meet new people and become more integrated in the York community. For my course there is a lot of support here if you are struggling. I have an academic supervisor and all my lectures have provided time that I can meet or speak to them. And my accounting lecturer is really supportive with all my questions which may seem silly but have helped me clarify difficult concepts.As a first year student it can be daunting but the support and opportunities through handshake and the university have helped me feel at home and progress with my academic studies. The only thing that could be improved is the online reading tutorials as they lack structure which is something I feel like I value to learn. However I understand as it is online it can be difficult to do this and this is only once a week for my course so it isn’t a major issue. Overall, I like University of York as all the support sessions and support from academics has helped me navigate a whole new learning environment.
