Student review [#103227] for Politics and Sociology
at University of Warwick

I’m a third-year Politics and Sociology student in Warwick’s PAIS department. I chose Warwick for its strong reputation in social sciences, and it’s mostly lived up to that.

Academics
The course is genuinely interdisciplinary. I’ve taken modules spanning political theory, international relations, economics, and sociology, which keeps things varied but demanding. Seminars are small and discussion-based, so you’re expected to actually engage with the reading. Feedback from tutors has been detailed and useful, especially if you’re willing to go through a few rounds of revisions before a final submission.

Workload
Both second and third year count equally towards your final grade, so there’s no easy year; the pressure stays fairly constant. The upside is that optional modules let you shape your final year around what actually interests you.

Student life
I’ve been involved with a few cultural Societies, which has been a good way to build community alongside the coursework. The campus is fairly self-contained; some people love that, others find it isolating, depending on what you want from university life.

Would I recommend it?
Yes, if you want a rigorous, research-led degree with strong staff engagement and don’t mind a demanding workload throughout. It definitely suits self-motivated students.
