I’m coming to the end of my first year in journalism, and I couldn’t think of anywhere else I would rather be. The tutors are incredibly supportive and there has been a real effort to communicate the course in a palatable way. The course is well respected and accredited by the NCTJ, it really prepares you for the working world. If you engage with the course, you get out what you put in. As well as practical knowledge, the programme makes an effort to teach you about your responsibilities as a journalist/ mass communicator. In the first semester of the first year, there is a mandatory module called the Media, Race and Racism- and ethics. First and foremost you are urged to be a decent character, and the writing follows.
