This course was initially advertised as a commercial photography course which left me under the impression that I would be ready and confident to graduate as a freelance photographer. As the course progressed, the direction changed and the focus turned more towards art history which was interesting but lacked practical application.
I think my fellow students and I would have benefitted from more technical teaching and a larger dark room to practically explain the fundamentals of photography.
During my time studying, there was a high staff turnover which frequently resulted in inconsistent feedback.
My personal interests revolved around investigative journalism and the university’s connections with the BBC at Media City gave me invaluable experience and knowledge to help me progress my career.
Salford as a city is not the most desirable location to live but its proximity to Manchester meant I could benefit from all that the city had to offer with cheaper accommodation costs.
I am grateful for the time and direction this degree gave me, once staff positions stabilise and facilities are updated I think the course will improve considerably.
